July 2, 201016 yr Hi everyone! I've just published a holding page for a website i'm building for September. The clients are UK hip hop group Foreign Beggars. There's a few changes i'm going to make over the next few days but i'd like some feedback on the initial design. As i said, this is just a holding page for the public to use while the new one is being created. They already have their own website but it isn't very functional and very difficult to update as it's full flash. The page itself is flash but dont worry the full website won't be! Cheers guys here's the linkBeggars test
July 2, 201016 yr i cann see the idea there but it's poorly executed. Why does the tour button only work as a rollover?
July 2, 201016 yr Author That's all they asked for! As i said it's just a holding page! You can see the tour dates can't you! Thanks for the feedback
July 2, 201016 yr That's all they asked for! As i said it's just a holding page! You can see the tour dates can't you! Thanks for the feedback Chill man, you asked for feedback, and that's what socreative gave you. I'm trying to keep an open mind as i hate flash websites. If the full website isn't going to be all flash, then why is this placeholder all in flash? Also, the tour dates window overlaps the header, the NA Projects image gets half chopped off the page when rolled over, and there are some alignment issues. I like the idea though; and it seems to work well for the type of music.
July 2, 201016 yr Author I think you mistook my tone a little, i wasn't being snappy!! Basically the reason i did it in flash was to have the video as a backdrop with some layers over the top. The guy's loved the idea so we went with it. The tour dates overlapping is one of the points the guys brought up so ive got to change that as well as make the logo more translucent. They also need an image link to the urban music awards site as they've been nominated. Thanks for the feedback and for god sake don't think i can't take negative feedback! That's the reason i post on this site to get honest opinions of professional developers!
July 2, 201016 yr Author Thanks Rapid, like you i'm not a massive fan of flash, and i'm no hardcore actionscriptor either! I think it's a really good tool for achieving certain things and there is some flash sites out there that are completely genius! But you've got to be good and i'm not the best by any standards! As Socreative rightly pointed out! On this occasion i think it's worked alot better than just having the movie in a little box embedded on HTML. I won't be making a habit of it though! Cheers for the response
July 3, 201016 yr Nice so far, aggree with the flash comments above. You need to put an off/mute button for the music that auto plays, glad I wasnt at work when I opened the page.
July 3, 201016 yr Well I quite like it. I think with artistic sites you can afford to lose a bit of accessibility in favour of aesthetics, especially on a holding page
July 3, 201016 yr Author Thanks guys, Torrix you are absolutely right, my brother (who works in an office) said exactly the same thing! Definitely something i need to change!
