I have put a site together for my girlfriends salon but to be honest I haven't coded in years and I'm probably not the best at design either. Could you review the site and let me know what you think and suggest ways that I could improve:

Firstly, hey

 

I quite like the design of the site - but the navigation drop down needs a little more spacing; it's a little cramped!

Also, regarding your code, make it all valid! Here's a list of the errors, it won't take long at all.

 

To get the site a little more Search Engine friendly, cut down the meta description to max 160 letters/characters, and use an <h1> tag! The <h1> tag should be near the top and should contain very important keywords such as the company name. Also, the <h2> tags are a little generic - change them from 'Home' to something a little more specific. You could add a meta keywords tag; though they're not really used anymore, the majority of sites still use them. The use of <h3> and <h4> to split up content on pages may also help you.

 

Since you're using Wordpress, I highly suggest using the following two plugins; they work magic, and I use them on all WP powered sites:

I like it. It's neat.

 

Maybe could benefit from a few more images to make it more appealing to women. There's a lot of text info which is neat but a picture paints a thousand words

Images were something I was thinking about, the only problem is that stock images cost and photographs of the salon and treatments etc don't seem to look as good. Maybe I just need to take better photos or photochop them better.

Your navigation would look nicer if it had a rollover behaviour (colour change). Also, your background tile needs tidying up a bit. There are some little black blotches in there with makes it look a bit messy.
