Hello

 

I want to have several gradient filled, rectangular cornered boxes of text, with transparent edges to sit over a coloured background.(all with fixed sizes 224w x 140h)

 

I do not have any Adobe products, but have used Paint.net to produce a suitable box image. I saved this as a 'gif' type file and it seems to work OK.

 

However, I am going to start an Illustrator course at the weekend and was wondering if that program would be better suited to my needs ... maybe producing a better cornered box. Certainly, with Paint.net, there is only one radius size for the corners and I assume Illustrator has many options.

 

Any advice would be appreciated.

I'm not sure if this helps but in GIMP when you create a rectangle you simply tick "rounded corners" and set the radius in pixels. Sorry for the graphic on my netbook.

When I first got paint.net, I read about Gimp, but there seemed to be installation problems, so I didn't bother with it.

 

I'll try tomorrow with Illustrator, then maybe try to download Gimp too.

I also want to decide on a font for my page heading, but that is certainly a job for Illustrator.
