Does google gets its info from RSS?

Featured Replies

Hi,

Does google get all it's info from the RSS feed on a wordpress site??

My boss seems to think so, but what about sites with no rss feed?

At the moment a wordpress run site, with rss feed, is not doing well in search results.

Could this be because of content issues - such as not enough fresh content?

The RSS feed is working fine.

Usually, the post appear at top of results the same day as posting, but lately have not.

Any advice is welcome! very much!!

Thanks

As far as I know, no.

It is about the content, google crawls webpages - although you can use the RSS feed to 'ping' google to let it know when it has been updated.

Thanks for the info.

Is there a way to check if the RSS feed is 'pinging' google?

I have checked the sitemap, rss feed and they both working and updating fine.

What else could it be then that google is not indexing my articles lately - was working ok until a week or two ago.

The older articles are still at top position when using the artiles' title.

Is it safe to say that it's vecause of the content/popularity of the site?

Thanks

You have some url problems, what with the issue2 thing - I press on the news menu option and get a completely different looking site plus your menu says the home page is on site.com/issue2/welcome/ but if you go straight to the site ie www.site.com you end up at site.com/issue2/. Duplicate urls all pointing to the same page will dilute the benefit of any incoming links.

But for me the real problem is the apparent complete change of look on moving away from the page you gave.

Yes - i agree. This is what the client requested! The 'other' site is the older site.

Do you think this would hinder the articles appearing in google search reuslts tho?

It was doing well before.

Webmaster tools is telling me there are 14 URL's on this site, only 11 indexed.

I am assuming that this has something to do with the articles not appearing in the search reuslts??

Thanks

Best idea might be to look at your analytics to see if the change of look is bouncing the visitors off, if it is then have strong words with the website owner. Maybe some pages aren't being indexed if they are essentially the same as pages already indexed ie duplicate content. Look at which are indexed and which aren't. Hope this helps.
