March 22, 201016 yr Hi all, Is there a 'best size' for a website to be in Kb's? Also, should image files be a certain Kb? Thanks G
March 22, 201016 yr You could use this website http://www.websiteoptimization.com/services/analyze/ which analyses your page and comments on the various parts and the KB it uses. I think it's very cautious, probably designed for pages to look good if dial-up internet is being used, but it's still useful.
March 23, 201016 yr Another useful gizmo, Yslow that works with firebug in firefox: Yslow In answer to the question regarding the total file size of a website...its not a simple, straight forward question to answer. You have to consider a few things like: Who is the targeted audience, will they mostly have broadband, are they likely to be affluent with newer computers - or are they likely to have less money & older computers...what about the subject matter of the website - is it a photographers portfolio or a simple text information source? ...you can go on & on here. As long as you consider some of the above & try & keep all your files sizes down as much as possible, then you should be in good shape. It isn't all down to file size either, http requests will affect the speed that a page loads...so using things like CSS sprites and merging css files or scripts into a single file can have some good speed implications.
