Where to start

Could anyone give me a good starting point to get into web design; I've tried to learn a bit of HTML myself through the web and then was told to look at php and then dreamweaver?

I eventually sant to be able to create a website but I want to ensure I know the basics

any help would be greatly appreciated

I think html, php and css are the foundations of web site coding. But I was told that .php is raising in demand. According to forums I frequent that is a true statement.

Yeah, I'd definitely learn PHP over ASP.

Don't forget the fun stuff though too - learn Photoshop and Flash later on.
