I'm still rather new to web designing and as of the moment can't really design anything special. I have a Sams Teach Yourself book that I find rather resourceful, but I haven't finished reading it yet. Now I know in the fifth part of the book it gives various projects to help you develop your skills and take the basics and turn out something useful. However, I was just curious if anyone here had any friendly tips they wanted to offer a newcomer.

 

Also, has anyone read Sams Teach Yourself PHP, MySQL, and Apache? If so, what did you think of the book? Do you think it's a good start for beginners?

theres a long thread in here where lots of people made contributions re what was best to learn on, search for dreamweaver and the thread should come up. I think you should just get stuck in and start playing and just refer to the books as and when you need them. Nothing beats actually seeing the page come together.

I'm not sure about the books you're talking about. But I'd definitely suggest reading up on many online articles on sites such as Smashing Magazine, Web Designer Depot, and Go Mediazine. Great places to learn so much about Web Design.
