Web design tutoring?

Featured Replies

Hi :),

Well, I have been interested in photoshop, graphic design and web design for around 2 years now and recently it appears that I have hit a wall which I feel only someone within the web design line of business could teach me.

Designing hopefully should all be alright already.. I'm familiar with photoshop so if this is of any use then brilliant.

However, I have got to the stage now where basic HTML knowledge and past photoshop experience is just not enough to offer basic web deisgn as a service. I pressume I need to do some extra work with php, css (which I have a very basic if at all knowledge of) and then my main concern is how to actually get my sites online and in a format which the customer can then edit.

I was just wondering if anyone was willing to possibly teach me part time? Since I'm currently in my final year of high school so I will only be able to do around an hour a night (since my school grades are pretty important this year) but I really think that this is the best way forward now.

Any work which I complete in this learning process can be done for your usage (so that you can hopefully benefit from this also).

Sorry if this isn't something which happens, just thought if I never ask then I'll never know..

Please email me with any propositions/feedback. My email address is smudged@hotmail.co.uk

Many thanks,

Tiger (Sam)

There's pages and pages of tutorials and hours upon hours of video tutorials on the net. Lynda.com is a great resource. There's really no reason anyone would walk you through it, unless you pay them well I spose, but being in high school that's unlikely. And if you did pay someone I'm betting you wont be getting your moneys worth. That money would be better spent on a Lynda.com subscription.

I to am in the same situation and in the end subscribed to the $25 (around £16) a month with Lynda - I'm well pleased its not just for web design, so if i got stuck with excel or word or anything they have tuts for all those to.

The other thing is books, I have bought a few - css,PS etc etc - they dont teach you as directly and as fast as a video tut like lynda but are great for reference afterwards.

You have about six gajillion tutorials available on the 'Net. They're live web pages.

Learn to "view code" and use Firefox (good designers use FF) and the Firebug plugin. When you find a page you think looks cool, view the code (always view the code) and then hover over anything you want to figure out the CSS for. Right-click and choose "Inspect Element" to see how the CSS was written. You can even play around with it, by turning different CSS on and off, changing the values, etc.

Just don't reuse someone's CSS or HTML. That's stealing - not learning.
