Thinking about going back to Uni to study design

Featured Replies

Hi, I've been thinking deeply about my career path recently. I love art and design, audio, anything innovative and experimental. I am a reasonable web designer at the moment, and I've got a slowly improving system for research and building websites. I also have a working knowledge of ASP.net and SQL. I'm a reasonable photographer and cameraman also. However, I'm considering going back to uni to study pure design. But I want to study something which if I desire, will allow me to dabble in different creative areas of electronic music composition, design, environmental design, web design, photography, filmmaking and art. These are the things along with mountain biking, expeditions and the outdoors that get's me excited.

I'm interested if anyone here studied design or has any other thoughts on what I just said.

Cheers in advance

Andy

I studied film making at University, which was awesome and I gained some amazing experiences there... and I did it joint with Media Studies which included some elements of design (mainly marketing and advertising), so it kinda tied in, but with web design I've taught myself entirely.

I'm not sure exactly what you're asking but if you wanna chat about experiences in both industries by all means PM me with any questions you have :)

That's pretty much word for word what I did. I studied National Diploma Multimedia , Then HND moving Image and I've just topped up my qualification to a BA at Coventry University. Design was covered a hell of alot in the ND & HND and you might be interested in a course called EMEDIA which involves everything including web design.

I'm teaching myself with the help of WDF how to code up my designs.

I studied Graphic Design at Uni and it pretty much killed my enthusiasm in design - Ive only just started getting back into again. I had a brilliant time dont get me wrong (I miss student life!), but course-wise it did nothing for me :( I think I'm just one of those people that likes to learn things on my own, so don't be too put off :)
