Your comments on my basic layout?

Before I go any further with this site (for my bro')i'd like thoughts on the way i've laid it out so far just in case it's time to pull it all apart again! OK, so it's very generic and there's alot work to be done but visually i'm about there how i'd like it to look. It's not my first site design but i'm still in single figures! The right content will change a little but mostly the main content with better wording and images. The header image will change to add a little more design to it but what are the downfalls of bits like the <h1> marginned off the page, basic CSS menu and the positioning method of the rightcontent div etc?

p.s. 'Scuse the forms, tutorial in progress!!!

That aint too bad a site you have there my friend, nice big logo, large tel no top right, nice imagery, good content, and quite pleasing on the eye.

A few pointers.. I would possibly change the nav a little, maybe have them with a border, with a solid background colour that changes on hover and active states, as opposed to the gradually fading gradient you have, which for me personally is a little offputting, and the nav seems to get lost in the page!

The 3 boxes (Airport prices,Our vehicles etc..) I would possibly move down, and under the main body text, with them laid out horizontally, and then move the 'Get a quote' box up and to the right, so it is to the right of the main body text, it would just make for a more visually pleasing layout.

Good job, you're on your way!!

Cheers, I totally agree with your comments, the fireworks mock up is close but the nav menu is alot wider now and has an extra link so has encroached on the fade too much. Like you say it leaves it a litte vague like it's drifting into the mist. Tomorrow i'll have a look at switching the main content round as you described, i think that will look better also....

:good:

Im not keen on the black - epecially when using white on top of it - it can be a bit hard on the eye - I when suggest using a dark grey instead. Im also not a fan on the whole reflection thing on the header, but plenty of websites seem to do it so maybe I'm in the minority! Maybe just make it a bit more subtle? Looking good though in general.

Im also very new to web design, Im still working on my first site - good luck us lot should stick together! :)

I've checked it in IE6 & 7, firefox and also on the iPhone and there's no major problems but not tried IE8 yet. In fact, by accident I found that using text for the contact numbers in the header the iPhone picks up on it and turns it into a clickable link and dials the selected number! The reflected text has probably been done to death by now so i'll probably change it..

Cheers!!

I think the site looks great, would just 'soften' the site with curved corners - personal preference though so don't take that to seriously.

I like the faded logo and the big tel logo at the top. Colour choices are nice and work well. maybe just make the 'airport prices' , 'our vehicles' , 'other services' headings a little smoother - the black seems a bit harse.

at the bottom you have no white border like the top.

my browser shows the scroll bar even though the page fits comfortably into my screen.

these are all opinions so don't read too much into them overall the site works and feels good
