Privacy or Term and conditions?

Featured Replies

Good morning :) (2:15AM) do we ever sleep?

When a client/customer makes an enquiry i take no personal details except name email number(optional) and a message for me, but say they give me number and anything else over the design/develop period and i declare i destroy anything i get and on request will destroy if that is what the client wants. Would this go in privacy section or the terms and condition section?

Little unsure on it, due to the legal nature of it. Im saying privacy but i just want to make sure.

I'm putting it in Privay section for now, until i hear back from WDF :)

Many Thanks Ben.

I would say privacy, as terms and conditions are what your client has to achieve, not yourself.

For your privacy section, may be worth something like "we only hold details that are essential, and only ever use them for the purpose they were collected, in line with the data protection act 1998"

I would say Privacy too.

Privacy is about the protection of your visitor or customer by disclosing the methods that you use to gather information, whether it be cookies or form based. It should also be clear about what you do with that information once it has been collected.

I would also state that you do not pass on their details to any other company other than yours.

Terms and Conditions generally govern the usage of a service, or the sale/purchase of a service or product. Its about what you buy into even if its free.

Thanks guys.

Hi Guys,

I have found this site useful in the past: ICO

Although a google search also gives you quite a few results where you can use templates for writing your privacy policy, i thought these two looked interesting Out Law (these guys are very good) and also these guys but I don't really know much about them.

It's good to understand these laws as they help with your own site, and when desiging others. In the US there have been a lot of issues around privacy, and some big law suits / class actions. We haven't really seen the same level of activity in the UK yet - but time will tell.
