Hi, I'm a developer and a design critique (I'm not artistic enough to do design myelf)

Hi all,

I have a few personal websites and I am also working on http://www.getmecooking.com and http://www.baconaholic.com

I joined this site because I am looking for some good and innovative designs for http://www.getmecooking.com My primary concern right now is how get the functionality of the site to work well (specifically how users should drill-down to find recipes).

Later I will be looking to hire someone/company to design the site from scratch.

Hello,

Welcome to the mad house.

Baconaholic and Getmecooking links didnt work for me.

For the functionality and accessibility of recipes, how many are you intending to have on the site?

Hi Reaper,

Yes erm yes sorry about that :blush1: an issue with the server caused it to go down for a few hours. Both sites are up and running again now.

We are thinking big, so looking to compete with other websites that have thousands of recipes. Although we only have about 20 on there right now.

I have looked at the search functionality of many recipe sites and haven't found a decent one yet.

I have also looked at several computer shop websites. Many of these seem to be much better for drilling down and finding a relevant item quickly, however I don't think their forms of navigation would work well on a recipe site.

After a lot of head scratching, I think I have come up with a fairly decent solution. On paper at least, I think it will work quite well and it isn't like any other cooking website. I am hoping that while being powerful, it will still work out to be easy to use for the first time, novice user. Watch this space - or rather the space on http:/www.getmecooking.com :)

Welcome to WDF!

I like that :D

Thanks - I have actually registered http://www.baconholic.com, http://www.baconoholic.com and http://www.baconaholic.com (as well as the .co.uk versions) as there is some ambiguity.

However after exchanging some e-mails with the guys at the Oxford English Dictionary, it is clear that the -aholic suffix is the correct one, so I have pointed them all to http://www.baconaholic.com.

Welcome to the forum buddy.

You have a great looking site by the way, but you should change the little 'getmecooking' part at the top, it looks totally out of place and reminds me of the way IE renders transparent PNG files.

mmmm, I'm hungry again, and I only just had a massive bacon sandwich.

Welcome

Yes thanks the logo certainly needs to be replaced. I have thought about getting it replaced (and getting some other buttons and icons created) using 99designs.com but I think I will wait until I am in a position where I am ready to get a design person/company to revamp the whole site.
