August 26, 200917 yr Hi guys, I have recently started work as a Web Designer for a limo broker company, who manage they're own limo websites. I had to design and code a site to their own template to upload and use with their CMS system. Its the first time ive built a site in this way and found it a little daunting trying to get my design to fit their template. Please ignore the 'articles' in the sidebar - i have to put these in and am not sure how i get the site to strecth down?! Thanks

August 26, 200917 yr it's not bad overall, i would change the separators on the main top navigation and also your latest articles stretch out below the bottow of the page here in firefox 3.5 the blue color doesnt go with the rest i think as well

But im not sure how to sort out the Articles section - Where the rest of the page stays behind? Because it is a template from work, i cannot get it to do that?? Any advice? Thanks guys.
August 26, 200917 yr Have you tried adding a clear attribute in your CSS to the side bar div? not sure if this will work though as you arent floating these divs from what I can see?? Also looks like the heading for the poll is in the same <td> as the image which might be why it isn't working? just thoughts hope it helps. p.s. did you ever finish the CIW course?

Yeah the problem i have is that the divs are absolute and not floated or contained within a #wrapper Its what i have to code to for the cms system. August 27, 200917 yr SO from what I can see the problem is you side menu has content which is bigger than the main text section but because the divs aren't floated the main content is'nt expanding with the side menu. hope I ve got that right?? The only thing I can think is that you need to fill that area on the main content section with somthing that will push it far enough down to look like the side menu is enclosed on the same page. so either add a div with a hight value to push the footer etc down probably need a width of 900px too just to stop it going anywhere else. or if that dosent work try adding a load of empty space ampersands like this &#. should work just like hitting enter in MS Word and create new lines. these aren't ideal obviously but as you have a template which you cant modify I don't think it would hurt ust to stop it looking so out of line. the other issue is that you will be left with a big white space? so maybe stick a graphic in there?? just my thoughts on how I would try to resolve this. fingerscrossed. I have complated my first exam and now need to find time to study for the next!! Somehow! p.s. I have only just come to the end of the javascript section!!! what a waist of time that was! can't beleve its going on about compatability issues with Netscape!!!!! It so Out dated!! just doing it for the free Adobe suite now.

And when you get the adobe software - its CS4 - But...the course work books are written for CS3 Which really doesnt help when learning flash as there a few major changes Good luck tho

It's ok as it is but could be so much better and more SEO friendly (images as headings instead of text is a no no). Take the home page for instance, how many people do you think will read past the first 3 or 4 lines? We live in a world of finicky, demanding and inpatient web surfers; unnecessary reading just gets in the way. Here is what that whole page is saying but compressed in to tag-lines... Compare limo prices find the right limo at the best price Save money on that special occasion or wedding book with confidence online or by phone and save time a few pics of limos to show what’s on offer Wouldn't bother with the poll, who wants to know what a dozen or so people think are the better limos; distracting more than anything. Everyone is different and will have there own particular favourite. I was thinking it would be ok for internal marketing reasons only but then you can get better trend analysis from booking data. The 'news' and 'limo links' sections are a little irrelevant as well. What limo related news could possibly grab my interest? Special offers would though Of course a lot of this is out of your hands since the company you work for decides a lot of this. Pointless me bringing it up really Like the red graphic at the top but would think about removing the red gradient from the menu bars and main logo. And then maybe change the red in the ‘online quote form’ image to a nice blue for contrast. Thanks for your advice tho on the design. Will adjust it today, see what i can do to improve it.
