Hi guys, this should be a simple problem but I've wasted half a day at work trying to figure it out. It doesn't occur in Firefox but it does occur in IE6.

 

The problem being, I have a two column layout. The left column is fixed size throughout the site however the right one is the main content and changes.

 

When the main content expands, the problem occurs because the left column doesn't grow with it, thus leaving a big empty space and showing through the body bg.

 

Anyone have any ideas how I can fix this?

You mean that the left and right have backgrounds, but when one column gets longer, the heights are different so the columns then have backgrounds of different heights and it looks odd?

 

 

There are three methods I know of; one means nesting the longer column in the shorter one to drag down its background, another method uses a background image over both columns and the third uses position: absolute divs with backgrounds behind your two columns. See items 16a, 18 and 19 here:-

This is pretty much the problem here... I want col1 to be white to match the length of col2 if that makes sense.
