I love the simplicity of it!

However, it took me a few seconds to figure out that heading was actually link.

On the other pages. again, simple is nice, but may look better with the addition of some colour via a logo or header of some sort?

I didn't see the header??? and look like your website is not finished yet? but I love your background.

Nice idea but - in my opinon - not great execution.

 

A minimalist design which works is one of the most stylish looks out there - it is also one of the most difficult to achieve. To me, your site looks empty rather than minimal.

 

Personally, if I am looking at somebodys portfolio, I want to see examples of their work on the home page - yours has none on the entire site.

Clean, but far too minimal me thinks. The splash screen gives no indication that you have to click the word to go anywhere, so a significant usability issue. The seond major usability issue is the lack of treatment for links. Normally these are underlined or at least some visual clue as to the fact they're clickable - yours aren't so as a user I have to stop and think about how to use your website, which in the main people won't do.

 

Once you do figure it out and you get into the content you're missing a trick. You talk about web design as a service, yet nowhere do you showcase that service with examples. Also the programming ones could do with some specific examples, even if it's just uni work that you've done as part of coursework or suchlike.

 

Also your code is using tables, which isn't great for what you're trying to achieve. Tables are for tabular design, yet you have some proper semantic markup contained within, albeit sometimes mis-guided. Check out the Opera Web Standards curriculum to help set you on the right track.

Your side menu text moves about too much aswell, it should remain in the same place I think

 

I also agree that some portfolio pics should be on your site somewhere

If I were you, I would drop the splash page because as you can see it is causing a few usability issues with the users of the website. And also I would try add some colour and images to the pages, as although you have gone for the simplistic look, the pages look dull and boring.

 

And you shouldn't use tables to code your layout, as it looks unprofessional. Learn to use xhtml and css to code your layouts. http://net.tutsplus.com/videos/screencasts...om-psd-to-html/ - this video should be able to help!

 

And lastly, when reading through your pages, it seemed a bit like reading through a CV. But IMO this is a good thing, as it lets your potential customers and users know a bit more about you and your background.

Hi, I have taken previous feeback into account and have redesigned it. I hope you think that the new dsign in much better. I certainly do.

I would seriously remove the "web design" bit until you can actually do it. The site looks like a classic programmers attempt, clean, simple but no flair at all.

 

Sorry to sound harsh, but even at the most basic levels it fails. Whose the bird with the PC? What relevance does she have to the site? How is the image hooked into the text by association/relevance - apart from the fact she is front of a PC, which could mean anything.

 

If you are moving into web design you need to develop some flair for design, and I cannot see any on the site so far, which should concern you a a natural designer would never have allowed it to look that way it does (plain form, no button css, no, well no anything!).

Too much empty space - no, let me rephraze that as empty space can be good. Poorly used empty space. Space should add something to the design, not be the bit of the page that you didn't have anything to put in. Are Dreamweaver and Homepage cutting edge web tool these days? Hand coding is far more 'cool'.
