This might be a strange question!

Is it possible to prevent your website from showing up in search engines?

Hi Kerstey. Not a strange question at all, and yes, it is possible.

1) Open up Notepad.

2) Place this code into the blank document:

User-agent: *
Disallow: /

3) Save the file as "robots.txt".

4) Upload the file to your public_html on your websever.

Thats it!

All good robots that obey Robots.txt (Google, Yahoo, MSN, Ask Jeeves Ect. Ect.) Will all stop accessing your site and the next time they do an index, your site will be removed from the search engine.

Unfortunatly "Bad" Robots, don't obey robots.txt so you may still appear on some rogue search engines or on whatever nasty thing they're indexing you for.

Yeah you're right, sorry, It's a habit to hit the Shift key on a new sentence. Mistake has now been corrected. :)

If you really are interested in blocking the engines, that idea mentioned is going to be great and also you may consider using some password protected folders which would completely stop any page access.
