I got a few questions so any help would be much appreciated

 

I am currently messing around with designing a website and need some help. I have read that the basic template for design would be 800x600 pixels and is this with 72dpi? I would be looking to use image ready & dreamweaver to produce with the design being done in imageready then transferred across to dreamweaver, is this ok?

 

Also I want to look at setting up this site for a friends business, would I need professional web hosting or could I use something as simple as bravenet / geocities etc... the site is only going to have a few pages.

Is there anything else I definitely need in the site to meet business standards, dont want to get in any trouble or the company in any trouble.

Ok to split your question up into three:

 

Firstly: Imageready and DW are good tools if used correctly, but if you are a complete beginner then I would suggest learning from the base upwards. Learn about html/css the correct way and it will benefit you in the long run. Visit sites like HTMLDOG, TIZAG etc... to get an idea on how to code sites properly and don't dive in headfirst to programs like DW

 

Secondly: Free hosting is fine for personal sites, but if your friend's business wants to be taken at all seriously then he really needs to invest in a proper domain name and hosting package. If it is a simple site the whole thing should cost you under £50 for the year with a great host like wesh.co.uk

 

Thirdly: You mention business standards. I assume that to mean accessibility etc... this all comes back to learning to code in the correct way and not using things like DW to do it for you.

 

Good luck - you will need it if your mate wants a decent site up in any rush

I mean business standards i mean if there is anything i need to put o so doesnt get sued or my design isnt copied, i know the copyright symbol and text but anything else.

I know images would need to be his own or bought not to effect infringement rights etc...

There are no set standards as far as I am aware. Just make sure your content is either original or well paid for (stock materials etc...) and that is about it.
