April 28, 200917 yr Sorry if this has been posted before but I couldn't find the answer I need. I'm working on a couple of sites and I would like to have a fixed position background that needs to fill the browser window. I can't use any form of repeating as it's a custom made (by the client) texture that doesn't repeat. Now what I want to know and for some reason haven't been able to receive a sold answer is what size should I make this image to ensure that the highest range of screen resolutions will be able to see it as intended without an obvious cutoff? or what is the highest screen res that I should worry about?

I saw that but since it is more of a niche site they have a little higher average just because of the scale of the graphics they work with. and I also wanted to make sure that it just works instead of works here but not so good here if you know what I mean.

A good thing to do is to view your background at the various common resolutions (eg. 1024 x 768) and make sure it still looks good at these popular sizes. If not some photoshop trickery might be in order...
April 28, 200917 yr Is it an existing site or a new site your doing? If it's an existing one, you might be able to tell from the website logs what resolutions people that visit the site use (or the highest resolution anyone that's visited it has ever used)? Just a thought.
April 28, 200917 yr Unless these sites are aimed at the design community 1920x1200 would be plenty I'd say. Of course it depends on the image also, there's no point making it look good a high resolution monitors if it is detracting from the appearance for the 1024px majority.
