Video Editor Portfolio Site

Featured Replies

Just looking to get some feedback on the direction of my portfolio site is going. Right now it is only a jpg of my home page. I didn't want to code the site only to realize I've gone off in the wrong direction.

Any advice/criticism would be greatly appreciated!

Site: www.richardsonmedia.ca/site_v1.html

Thanks!

Think it could do with a little more colour, looks a little bland at the moment, Could be a nicce clean site though...

You could have put a little more imagination into the menu and banner...

Good start though ;)

Hey,

Thanks for the feedback - really appreciate it! I'll see what I can come up with to add a bit more visual interest. I'm trying to keep the focus on the video work, but agree that it is somewhat bland and could use some more interest.

I think I'll try to incorporate some kind of graphical element to tie in the header and footer - which could also tie in with my demo reel intro and outro.

Do you have any suggestions on how/where to introduce some more colour?

Thanks.

Hi,

I think the site would have more impact if you create more contrast. One way is to darken and desaturise the brown in the header and footer whilst lightening the background. Whilst doing so I'd probably reduce the saturation of the text orange and blue.

Perhaps a tint (light or dark) of the blue could be used for some of the 'blocks' (such as 'featured work') to add a little more variation. Alternatively a third colour could enliven it also.

Thanks for the specific advice on improving the colours & contrast. I've uploaded an alternate version with much better contrast and less saturation. I didn't realize just how saturated and orangey-brown the first version was.

New version: http://www.richardsonmedia.ca/site_v1b.html

Old version: http://www.richardsonmedia.ca/site_v1.html

I'll continue to refine it and add some more visual interest (graphically or with the addition of another colour). Rather than having a transparent border, around the blocks, I may change it to a third colour.

Any further advice/critique is more than welcome.

Thanks again!
