I currently maintain a web site that is looking to expand its business over to Ireland. My client has looked into purchasing a .ie domain name but has had all sorts of issues registering it due to all the info his host wants to know about his business.

 

Has anyone had such issues registering an .ie domain name or is it just his host being awkward?

Sounds like an awkward host to me. You should try and register a domain directly through a registrar, not a webhost since they have complete ownership of the domain otherwise and if you decide to move hosts they can be a bit childish on giving them to you.

You cannot register a .ie domain name unless you have an invested interest and an address in Ireland.
