Hello people. I'd just like some thoughts on a website I'm currently working on as part of a Uni project. Its purpose is to advertise my Uni building as a conference centre with all the relevant facilities/services. It's supposed to be done as a group, but I don't trust the others with the xhtml/css so have given them the task of content (hence the lack of it so far) .

 

I have until Friday to complete it and hand it in. Any thoughts on the layout so far would be greatly appreciated.

Just my initial thoughts...

• The statement above implies you're project manager. Better keep on top of the team, because it's you're responsibility if there's still no content on Friday!
  
• Two out of three header images have subjects on the far left looking left, which looks dreadful, but...
  
• The header images don't say 'conference' to me, they say 'students randomly hanging around somewhere'. I can take a stroll to my local college and see that without having to book a conference facility. If there is a great auditorium, at least show it. The University of Manchester looks like it's got a nice one - why not research the local competition!
  
• Until the content is there, there's not much to judge - it's an OK template
  

Thanks for your input. Yes, I am project manager and ignore the banner images as they were just lifted off the Uni website until my team members get some photographs taken which I can use to replace the current images.

 

I mainly just need feedback on the usability/accessibility/general feel as I'll be marked on all them things.

With no content, and no text, there's not an awful lot to go on.

It looks OK, but I can't say it's going to set the world on fire without the content. Are you working to any branding guidelines? There's no point commenting on that if they are a constraint.

 

A couple of points though -

• There's not enough differentiation between the footer links and the address
  
• Is there going to be a Facilities page, or just the three sub-pages? If there is, the footer links need to show it. If not, cutting straight to the catering, etc. doesn't seem right at all.
  

 

The other thing I would bear in mind is this is part of your university education. Will this project have any result on your final result? If so, do it yourself, it's your degree If not, do it yourself, make mistakes and let your tutor help you learn from them. It's probably costing you enough - get you're money's worth!
