Hope this is alright in this section as it kinda covers two subjects.

 

So I have some relative knowledge in designing and coding, and I've basically got my website almost *complete* but I have no knowledge whatsoever on how to get it on the Internet.

 

Looking into buying a domain name from one.com, since I've seen it recommended somewhere on here..

 

What about web hosting? I think one.com includes it?

 

Can someone please briefly explain how the web hosting thing works? How do I update my website once it's hosted, how I can calculate how much web space I need? (Is it a simple matter of looking at the size of my website folder?) It's a pretty much static site, I will be updating it with a few articles and maybe some extra pages (non image heavy) over time.

Most web hosts provide you with a control panel where you can fully manage your website - you can add e-mails, add sub-domains, view website statistics, and upload all your website content. It is fairly simple to grasp.

 

In terms of web space you will need, it would need no more than about 500MB assuming your website is relatively small. You should also consider bandwidth as this will determine how much traffic you are likely to receive. If you are just starting your website, you may only need a few gigabytes, after that you can assess whether you need to upgrade if your website gradually becomes popular.
