I'd like to align a div underneath my banner to be directly underneath it and there'll also be a content box by the side of it which will be an extendable div, I also need to know how to position the text in the boxes with margins ect..

Stick it all in a container (including your banner) and specify a width for the container. Then simply float your box left and it will sit flush underneath the banner.

It is great to see new people getting involved in web design. Welcome to the forum and keep posting around. You will improve really quickly if you follow the tutorials I suggested and listen to a lot of the members on here.

 

In terms of your content fitting in; get it in place first and then re-post and people can advise you on margins etc...
