I have a monotone layout, and i want to add some subtle colour into it. I've added a few slight gradients to give it some depth but it still seems to be blande.

It would be nice to see the design before I comment but colourful icons can sometimes sort out bland designs if used correctly

I think the gradient on the top left is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay to strong, but the one on the right is great. Your use of cerise pink is excellent.

I'm considering changing the initial homepage design, i was thinking maybe some small icons and stuff but then i was thinking it might look a bit odd.

 

I'll post an image up, bear in mind it's a work in progress and i'm starting to hate it :/ (i think it's because i've been fiddling with it so long).

 

The menu's changed (it's now multi level, which i'm not too keen about). And the logo's probably gonna change, i did like it, not any more.

 

P.S ignore the humerous skull, that was just a poorly placed content fill ;PP

In all honesty the only thing i would do is add a border under each of the nav buttons, similar to the line under the logo, you could then also colour them to bring in the colouring you wanted.

What i did do though, was when you mouse over the nav, the little black strip at the top changes colour over the selected menu item, although because i've switched for a more complex multilevel css menu, i'm having a few issues.

 

Although do i really need a multi level, is it good enough to just link to say the services page and then link from there to all the services?

 

P.S the skull was for a business card mock i did the other day, couldn't get the text right on it... but that bit on the homepage would be the featured content.

 

Also should that be static content (as it is now) or like a small slideshow to add some movement into the page?

I tend to try and stay away from multilevel unless absolutly necessary, a main services page with links leading from it would be fine imo.

Your probably right, i'm just overly complicating things.

 

And all the nested .menu ul li a:hover ul li:a {blah} lines are driving me crazy, you modify one thing, and because of inheritance you have to rewrite the child elements... gah!
