Hi all!!

I finished 2 layouts for the website I have to make, but i feel that im missing something. I need to put a website name but I can't find a way how to do it in best way.

So if you could give me some tips it would be great!!

Oh yeah of course haven't think about that...

It's going to be a business site. Mostly aimed on advanced pc users.

The goal of the website is to find people who can php, and come in contact with them to discuss working with them in more details.

Domainname is www.phpprogrammeur.nl (php programmer).

And thats pretty much it.

Personally I always work from the logo first - as usually this has some sort of style or colours to work from.

 

I like option 1 best - think it looks more modern and give you a bit more flexibility - but they are a bit dull.

 

If you haven't got a logo - just go for a simple font overlayed the jigsaw image if thats the one you want to use.

 

Take a look at site such as Design Shack for some inspiration.

Not a fan of either of them sorry, they look a little too bland, as though nothing is going on. Try and get some stock images or screenshots on there, otherwise it'll just look a little boring. Also, I'd avoid dropshadows like that, they're okay on sites where it's not to severe, but for a site like that, I'm going to say no.

Option one is certainly my favourite...i would keep working on that, maybe introduce some more colours though.

I like the 1st one too. I dont have any logo made im terrible with them. I just wanted to have a header with some text. Now i just have to find a way to put the text in a good way. But ill talk with the customer first about what for text he wants in there.

Anymore tips or things that dont look good or could use some work.

Theres loads of site out there to get some ideas from - take half an hour to look through the design shack link and you'll get some inspiration I'm sure!

 

Maybe throw this back to the client - sounds like you've been given a brief that needs some clarifying, so best to ask their opinion even at this point.

just a constructive opinion. but i guess i agree with Traxor. I don't find the two lay-outs effective for a business site for pc advanced users. both of the two lay-outs look dull and more fits for a personal blog site. Try to add some dynamics.. i think you can do better than this..

Hmm... i like the design especially the 1st one. It is simple, neat and very professional.

 

But i think if this blog is for php programmers i think you have to put an object or something that will reflect the php programmers or to the kind of audience you are targeting. For example in the second layout maybe you can change the 3 pictures in the header like laptop, pc or maybe a picture of a person using a laptop... things like that.

One thing i'd look at is the main 3 columns, if that's your homepage i'd consider having a brief introduction with info about you and your partners, maybe consider narrowing it down to 2 columns, because by the looks of it you're struggling to fill it with content?

I would have the body text set to regular instead of bold and I would increase the height of the navigation bar to give it some space to breathe.

 

Also, I'm not sure about all the drop-shadows on the content areas.

 

Other than that, it's a fairly simple site. I can't make up my mind on whether I like it or not?

Thanks for your tips. I wasn't sure about the navigation bar height. And what's with the drop shadows? I read it before that could help but i dont really see how.

It's suppose to be a simple site. It's only to give people information about what the customer does and who is looking for.

I don't know. Maybe make them a little subtler. I wasn't having a go about the site being simple. Simple websites a generally the way to go, that's my philosophy anyway.

Also, your footer is only displaying content you already show in your top nav, i'd be tempted to put a small logo bottom left and have a contact us link in the bottom right. You don't want too many links in the footer in my opinion.

And all of the links are not 100% staying. I just put some standard text so it wouldn't look so empty.

 

But i want to maybe add some more color/colors. Just need to think where.

Oh yeah! One thing i totally forgot! Site have to be SEO and i have difficulties with the PHP Programmeur. I can't find the way how to put it nicely in the header, any suggestions?
