New Site - Rock Band

Featured Replies

hi,

ive done most of the work on this new project now - opinions please!!

also, how does the page 'fit' in your screen res? (i have a 19" widescreen!)

thanks guys

linky: review please!

*ive changed the menu font to arial black until i decide what to do for the menu?*

*ive added music in the media section*

*ive made the header slightly bigger*

Hi, just had a quick look the header is not displaying right in my FF3, the Email link has dropped in behind the latest news text,

I like the header with the band looking mean and moody behind, think it could do with being a bit larger, its hard to say much else as it is a work in progress, but like it so far.

thanks t break - i now realise about the menu font!!! sorry!! will need to choose a different font i think.

the email link drops down because the font size is altered because the font i chose only seems to work on my system. thanks again.

I don't think it's meant to look like the picture does it?

You've used non-standard fonts e.g. font-family:earwig factory; which is causing some of the problem

**OK ive now realised the menu font only works on my system :( is there a way of using a 'not so common' font as the menu in this webpage??**

you could use that font but make them images instead.

apart from the font problem!! - what do you think about the rest of the page? anything i should change, add, remove??

One thing you could have is a sample track playing in the background, not everone is a fan of music on websites but they are a band, would just have to make sure the tune can be turned off quickly and easily if the viewer wants to.

maybe tho, most people dont like that like you said plus it may slow loading time.

thanks for your advice tho. will work on the header first.

I'd recommend implementing sIFR instead of changing the links to images. Images in place of links is bad for accessibility and SEO, even if the images do have alternative text. Just make sure to use sIFR for the header text only ;).

i had a quick look at sIFR but i dont know JavaScript to the point of being able to write it or Flash :(

You don't need to be able to write either it or Flash. Just download the example files and copy and paste.

You can also use a cleaner image on the heading menu, when the red star hovers as the noisy white outline is still visible. With the image background and white text on the about us page, probably add a color overlay or some sort of effect to the image in the bg to make the text a bit more clearer to see.

I think its coming along nicely, looks like it fits the image of the band well.

Only small probs I could see were the email form fields are a bit out of line, and there is 1 validation error, its just a closing img tag that is missing a opening tag so looks like you had an image that you got rid of and didnt delete the tags.

Apart from those very minor points I think its a nice site, the band should be pleased.

Hi

It has come along nicely and I like the picture in the header.

It says so much and looks the part.

All you need do is just up-date gigs etc and you are well Rocking

Good luck

Thanks T Break and peter000!

tbh, im trying to get that 'professional' look but i suppose that'll come in time when i am 'professional'!

as for the validation - guilty as charged! - ive only checked it once. but i suppose 1 error isnt bad for a newbie! im quite pleased with that!

ok im off to validate my coding now.............!
