Hey guys,

 

So I'm trying to figure out how to create templates in Joomla with little success. My complete lack of PHP knowledge is making it confusing for me to understand where to put the PHP tags that draw content from Joomla.

 

Is there anyone who wouldn't mind letting me add them on MSN so I can shoot occassional questions when I'm really stuck? I'd be extremely grateful.

You are asking for a lot out of people that usually have limited time on their hands. I don't think anyone will offer up to be your personal go to guy/gal.

 

Most are on here promoting their sites and spend the rest of their time working on their projects.

 

Your best resource for learning php, is to RTFM on php (read the full manual) and ask questions on the Joomla! forums.

 

Aside from purchasing a couple books on the matters, which is what I had to do, perusing the sites and forums will open a wealth of knowledge.

Sorry man but I think everyone here wished they had there own personal tutor for free. You just going to have to learn the hard way and read and watch video tutorials.

"RTFM"- I haven't heard that in a while, but always had a soft spot for it!

Never has such good advice been given in such a seemingly flippant abbreviation.

 

"WYOA" works equally as well, for industries where documentation is not so readily available.

Better that you just fired your questions as and when you have them and throw yourself on the mercy of the forum, rather than trying to indenture a personal dogsbody for nowt. I've tried getting Rasmus Lerdorf to be my personal biatch, but for some reason he ain't biting. Go figure.

 

Having said that:

As I understand it, Joomla is largely driven by an interface so you shouldn't need to get your hands dirty with PHP (I know several people who've set up sites on Joomla who have no knowledge of PHP).

 

What do you want to use Joomla for? Wordpress is very easy to use and customise by all accounts, so depending on your needs, you may find it useful.

 

Have you checked out the services offered by your host. If you don't mind a templatey looking site, then many hosts offer to set up a CMS/Blog/Shop (for a fee).
