Hairy Lemon Hostel : Welcome.

Featured Replies

The requirement of this one were pretty specific; I had a little more scope to get the juices flowing.

so what do you think: http://www.aaronbrand.co.uk/draft/hairylemon/hairylemon4/

- I need to make "hairy lemon hostels" stand out far more. (a logo hasn't been finalized yet)

- The scale of the objects annoys me.

Pretty good, but the 3 links don't really stand out. Although the arrow points at it, I have a feeling that you could do something a bit more with the text to make it stand out. A good colour perhaps? Transparent white background? I don't know, but it doesn't look the greatest right now. "Borshi Hostel" is especially hard to read.

The footer has some space between it and the bottom of the page for me in FF3, and the gradient is a bit heavy right above it.

I like it though, the whole 3D stuff on a desk effect is cool. Good work :)

I like your idea but I would choose another background color that would match the notebook. I would also remove Hostels sticker so the map could be placed higher. That's my opinion

Love the portal landing page! It is bold, funky and builds attraction, but for me, once you click into the actual Hostel site, it looks bland and loses all its appeal. Everything looks flat and static. Try to build on the funkiness of the portal page and inject some of that life into your main sites. Get rid of the grid, use a more adventurous colour scheme and a less bland font... that would be my next move!

Hi

My honest opinion.

Simplicity, wins the prize.

You have done an exceptional job, but I think you know you have added complication to it.

If you remove the Hostel sign - the logo and the paper clip – it will then open its own door.

Simply strengthen the word presentation…. and make give that pole position.

You are selling it to the eyes – so you must make completely certain the clients buy it.

I hope this helps and it's my last post for a while - so good luck.

Hi aaron1uk,

with such a tasty sounding brand as Hairy Lemon Hostels I think you have room to develop the aesthetics a little to really get something tasty.

Since you do have both a colour and a fruit in the title I would strongly advocate echoing it more in the colour choice.

If you remember when Heinz did the limited edition green tomato sauce, you will recall how wrong it seemed when tasting it, even though the ingredients were the same. All that psychology adds up and when we think of lemons we don't think of pinks and fuscia.

I would throw a load of yellow in, different hues and if stuck head over to http://kuler.adobe.com/ for inspiration.

It's not often web designers get to lose their minds on something as cool sounding as Hairy Lemon Hostels, so I would really consider playing with colour and illustration.

Aside from that I think the conceptual plays nicely - scattered photos and notebook give it that back-packer feel.

I think you're on the right track and have the potential for a great looking site.

thanks for the suggestions, I understand your ideas I felt the same way I did build a website based on the landing page but the client insisted the hostel sites were designed as they are I tried to deviate a little but was told to use specific colors, Its a shame because with a brand like hairy lemon I could have really taken the site somewhere!

peter I will certainly take your advice and see what I can do with the word presentation.
