November 19, 200817 yr Okay, the problem im having is i backed up all my work/files/movies/music etc etc etc onto an external harddrive. Everything was going great until myself, the girlfriend and a couple of friends came back to my house from a night of drinking at my local. My laptop was sitting on the coffee table, and the external harddrive was sitting on the arm of chair. The next morning i came down stairs, loaded up the laptop and went to access something on the harddrive........... tick tick tick tick screetchhhhhh I tried to run a recovery program on the harddrive to recover the files but it kept making the same noise over and over again Theres local company looking to hire a designer, and they are asking for examples of work The only problem i have is i dont have no examples of my work as i lost everything on my external harddrive. What the hell am i going to do?
November 19, 200817 yr Are you using a PC or a Mac? Try to bring your external HD to a local computer repair shop and ask them if they can recover your files. This happened to my friend and his files were successfully recovered. The ticking sound means there might be a physical damage to your hard drive and doesn't look good. For Mac, I used Data Rescue II to recover my files from my external hard drive. However, upon recovering, all the file names were changed so I had to sort them out one by one which was tedious. Its always advisable to avoid getting your HD bumped too often too. Hope this helps.
November 19, 200817 yr Author I must go tomorrow and take the harddrive to an independant computer shop to see what they can do. It was the first time i ever used the harddrive, i only the stuff on it for about a week or 2 The harddrive had 1 drop, and it was a 2 foot drop off the sofa This just means i cant apply for this job which ****ing sucks as im depressed in my current job
November 19, 200817 yr Good luck. Can you try checking who else would have a copy of your portfolio? like previous companies you applied to and ask if you can have a copy? Try storing your portfolio in a dvd or cd aside from your hard drive as back up too.
November 19, 200817 yr Best bet would be to contact a professional data recovery company rather than a local PC shop. Bloody amazing what they can do - but it will probably cost a lot. I guess it depends on what value you place on the drive contents. Ontrack are pretty well known for this sort of thing. ::edit:: looks like they'll give you a free quote
