November 13, 200817 yr Hi there guys, this is stressing me out as I have a very angry client at the other end of the phone! They own a pub and it's listed on Google earth but they want a little icon on it that identifies it as a pub, I can see NO way to do this, the Google Local Business centre lets me edit info about them but offers no choice of icons on Google Maps or Google earth... help!!!!! Thanks
November 13, 200817 yr i don't think that's possible at all... why is the client angry? bit unreasonable to ask for something impossible and than get angry when it cant be done
November 13, 200817 yr Author Oh they're totally unreasonable, I just need to be safe and make sure there's nothing I've not looked into. Here's an image of what I think they want: (sorry Google Earth hates screenshots so I had to use my camera phone) Thanks for your help!
November 14, 200817 yr You can do that yes. For a start see Using Custom Placemark Icons . Another good place is Google Earth Outreach and more here also. Easiest is likely to find a kml file that has icons and see how it's done. More specifically, in the docs on icons The example there: <Style id="randomColorIcon"> <IconStyle> <color>ff00ff00</color> <colorMode>random</colorMode> <scale>1.1</scale> <Icon> <href>http://maps.google.com/mapfiles/kml/pal3/icon21.png</href> </Icon> </IconStyle> Also, right click any of these for the path (or save them and use) Mikes Tutorials
November 14, 200817 yr You need the kml file to be online. I do google maps, but not google earth so not fam with the actual process. This may help for some tips on making it public, or do a search.
