Seeking feedback on layout

Featured Replies

hi all

i am a php guy doing mostly server-end stuff so my frontend skills are crap, anyways i got this mockup of a site i am trying to build, I dont know, it just doesnt look professional or good to me so i was hoping if someone can give me some advice and pointers on how to make the layout look better. I dont have any image editing software (except paint), so if anyone has any ideas using CSS (borders, background-colors, etc) to make things look better please let me know! What bothers me alot is the content part, which has the gray round borders...i would like to add more boxes but I dont know how to make it look better

thanks in advance!

I'd like to help but I'm not exactly sure what you want??? I am fairly good at css (although there are many here better lol) so I will try and help if may be you could be more specific about what you want.

I know your site is fairly simple but I quite like that look personally.

Do you want your main box to have all corners rounded? When you say more boxes do you mean a box for the left and right section each?

Your navigation is in a strange place...I nearly thought you had none so it might be worth moving to under your image banner or else to the side of your main text.

Is this what you were thinking?

You could create your navigation using an unordered list and set the css to display inline so it is horizontal, and by setting this in a div with an id to put properties specific to the list.

I don't really know how much you know so I don't want to confuse / patronize (you may know more than me).

If I can help, i will.

I could do with some php help in exchange :)

thanks for the feedback

well, i kind of want to get rid of that gray rounded box completely and use more simple and thinner borders for boxes...

i dont know, one example i would like to follow is http://www.atlaspost.com/main.php

not everything, but like the individual boxes everywhere, makes it look neat...i guess i answered my own question and i should just go ahead and start laying out stuff with boxes..

Have a play and ask if unsure. I'll help if I can and if not, there are loads of helpful ppl out there in WDF :)
