October 20, 200818 yr Hi, i have had a problem with a hosting company that a client bought from and have now got a new host for them. i was planning on having the domain which was registerd by the first host pointed to the nameservers of the new host however when i asked the first host to do this they suggested that they were going to point it directly to the hosting server i think so that emails already setup by them could continue uninterupted. should i let this happen, it sounds a bit suspicious to me. it is perfectly easy for me to set the email up again on the new host. thanks,
October 20, 200818 yr This sounds like they are trying to keep some business this is what i suspected, thanks
October 20, 200818 yr i am still having more trouble with the regitrar of the domain pointing it to new nameservers. i am correct in thinking that it is the norm to point to a nameserver and not to the hostserver? thanks,
October 23, 200818 yr Not 100% sure, but think there is a cooling-off period for newly registered domains, before they can be transferred but that should not prevent the domain company from updating the name servers of your client's domain. Some domain firms charge minimal registration fees to entice you in, but then charge a fee to transfer or update the name servers. Suggest checking their T&C.
