upload problem :(

Featured Replies

Hi All, I hope you can help me as I'm out of ideas now. I have a site designed in Dreamweaver8 and have been able to successfully upload it to the host (ntlworld) for a while however over the past few months I have been unable to do this and just getting the message... "FTP error occourred - cannot make connection to host. Dreamweaver could not connect because the server is down or not accepting connections." I have contacted the host and they say there should be nothing stoping me and all is running fine. I know everything my side is Ok as I can upload and update my personal site (on a different host 1and1.co.uk) can anyone surggest anything?

Im running on a mac if that changes anything (as I say Im very new to web design so any ideas are great)

thanks alot hope you can help me stop pulling my hair out!

Odd that it would suddenly start doing that for no reason. You haven't made any changes on your system? If you can connect with a seperate FTP client, the issue is probably to do with DW or anything that might block DW. Installing a firewall (or any security software that can block connections), or DNS caching software could be a culprit, or it could be DW's site settings getting messed up. Double check those, maybe try setting up another entry in the site manager for that site and testing that?

We know it's not the site, 'cos you can get to it with another client. So, the problem has to be somewhere between dreamweaver and it's connection to the webspace. That basically means, Dreamweaver, the outgoing connection or connecting to the site.

I haven't used DW in years - can you import FTP settings from another client? That might be one way to rule out the settings being wrong.

Regarding the outgoing connection, maybe have a look in your firewall log just to make sure it's not getting blocked for some reason. Off the top of my head, some other programs that might affect it - antivirus, peerguardian, proxies/anonymisers..

The actual connection to the site is probably the least likely, but have a check of your user/pass, timeout settings etc

If it's none of the above, I'm stumped :(
