Got a Web desgin Job and need information.

Featured Replies

Hey all,

I got a college project coming up and I'm doing a web site for my uncle so i don't waste time waiting for the college.

Its for a pub which has, live bands, live football, special events, Darts leagues, Bar food,

I was discussing with the client and he wants it so he can sign into the website and edit the Text on certain pages only.

The things he would like to be able to change are the live band schedule, live football schedule, darts league and stuff like that.

Now this is all new territory for me and I'm happy I'm going to be learning new stuff.

Things I need help with

Logging in and out

making the pages so they can only be edited once the Admin has logged in, and so the Admin is the only one that can login.

and I need help in how to set up the forms so that he can add and delete posts that he makes on the site.

What I was hoping for is for you guys to help supply tutorials and useful information to help me, and in the dire option to actually help me but i would prefer tutorials for now,

I will be looking for tutorials my self and finding out how things are done but it would be nice for some professionals out there to help me get on the web design ladder.

Thanks for all the help and co-operation!

A CMS would handle all that logging in and editing stuff. Without knowing more, I'd probably head for Wordpress. It's quite an easy one to get to grips with and there's a lot of help and documentation on the site.

You can then change the layout and style it however you want.

Thank you so much that cushy cms is perfect!

Many Thanks!

This cushy CMS looks very simple to use!

what other features does it offer? Can it manage logins and privileges to certain parts of the site etc..? how would someone go about that?

Thanks

there are many web design CMS available in the market, which you can use for website design. as said by other member, wordpress is the best to start with.

you can also try other web design cms as well/...

i made my own flat filed CMS system for a simular project. I made it using very basic PHP and incorpotated a HTML editor into it so the client could edit the page himself and change the colour of the text position and upload images etc etc.

this was very simple to do and it basically edited a txt file which was including into a page layout, so the client could only edit the main content of the page.

i taught my self how to do this in 2 days just using information on the net about php.

look into the html editors and how to write and edit txt file in php.

i made this to run using flat files and doesnot require any database, also very simple to use for the less "computer happy" users, ie 2 buttons to click to edit and update infomation.

also the login section is easy if you haver the ability to password protect folders from the server control panel.

ps if you are going to use this project as part of college work then you cant use any CMS systems out there as you will be expected to use and expalin you OWN code, not just copy code from a website.
