been teaching myself for about 6 months now and wading through treacle on first steps into php and mysql !

Hi murky,

Truro Golf Club;

 

First looks, it's nice, bright, pretty and colourful. I personally would take that "A beautiful and challenging tree-lined.." and give it a funky serif font and make it a little larger, to allow it to differ from content text. Also, the hover colour on links right now doesn't make sense, it's the only red on the page (common mistake). Go with a dark green, a darker blue or even black. Also, for usability, people will often click on the bullet image as opposed to the text it represents, so link those accordingly.

 

Threemile Social Club;

 

First impressions, it's better than the Golf Club website. The logo/badge is nicely placed, better than Truro. If you'd like to make the website a bit smoother as opposed to stopping at the sides, give the body tag a background-image and have it repeat-x, just using that orange to yellow gradient. On your navigation, I would recommend not using that font for the lettering, so I'll suggest changing it to Arial, making it bold, and having it change it's colour to white on a:hover. Now, blue text? If you can go and find a children's painting with yellow and blue together, and it looks nice, then you can still use that blue. But as long as that hasn't happened, change that text to a darker orange, or black.

Get some favicons in there. Do away with the hit counter too, they're a relic of the late 90s .

Everything you have said - i can't help but agree with !! lol

I guess a common thing for beginners is not being able to see the wood for the trees when designing your first sites.

 

I will be implementing some (if not all) of your suggetsions.

and you end up adding it - just because you can' lol
