  1. I tried that and have left it in my code, but it hasn't done anything. So far, the only things that have made a difference is making the width of the content area half its size or inputing a doctype. Halfing the width of the content area completely negates the point of me widening the the area in the first place, but all of the browsers work. If I input a doctype, the content in IE falls from the container and rests just underneath it.
  2. The styles are what's causing this, it's the fact that before I didn't have a doctype in there at all and now I do. I've tried all the style type code I can think of to suck the content back in but I cannot. For now, I've chosen to throw Opera to the dogs until I can figure this out. Also: I use !important to differentiate between code for ff/o/chrome and IE.
  3. I get the same problems with that one as well, would it make a difference considering my files are all .php?
  4. It's not 'valid', but there's nothing wrong with the code that is used for the design or positioning. The only problems that the validator has with my code is that I use <br /> to break lines on my page. and they're not happy with me using <ul><ol></ol></ul> which they'll get over. My biggest problem in IE is that the content isn't even in the container anymore. And I can't even cheat and use negative margins or padding to get it back in there.
  5. I'll check the validators again but I don't remember seeing anything last time. It's not a minor difference in Opera, the content is more than halfway down the page, causing the container to break its dimensions. Edit: Well, I've fixed Opera by inserting <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01//EN"> And that fixed opera, but now IE is having a hell of a time accepting it. the doctype is the opening tag, just as it should be, so IE shouldn't be in quirks mode. I even tried <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Strict//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-strict.dtd"> ? Is there another doctype I should be using?
  6. I've spent the last week trying to figure out how to best code my site for perfect viewing in all modern browsers (Firefox, Internet Explorer, Opera etc) and I'm unable to get the pages to do what I want. I've researched a dozen or so hacks and filters for the css files that I use and nothing groundbreaking has shown itself. I have the most recent versions of Firefox and Opera on my computer, and I'm still using IE7. FF usually had it's own code by giving it the ol' !important at the end of code specifically for it, but now that I'm trying to configure for opera, opera is reading it as well, regardless of where and how I position the code. I tried using the :root value to keep IE7 from reading the values, but some values don't read in Opera. I'll provide an example page where you all can view and see what I'm talking about. http://thedisgaeafan.net This is the front page, and the only two browsers it looks the same in are Firefox and Chrome. In Internet Explorer there are slight differences that would take a few hours to go through and fix and then in Opera, there are differences that can only be fixed if I shrink the content area by over half. How do I fix this? Do I need to start from scratch with my CSS sheets? I think I put this is in the wrong spot. :c\
  7. I took a look at the code while I was about to grab the code and I still had php tags in it. So, after I got rid of it from the included file, it works. I'm so excited, this will save me oodles of time. Thank you! :c)
  8. Now it's showing something in the browser, but it's not even half the site and no content. It's a single menu bar, the container and the header. Nothing else is there. <html> <head> <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Strict//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-strict.dtd"> <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1" /> <META NAME="author" CONTENT="The Disgaea Fan" /> <meta name="Keywords" name="Keywords" content="disgaea,hourofdarkness,afternoonofdarkness,makaikingdom,2,disgaea2,forums,ph antom kingdom,disgaea3,disgaea:hourofdarkness,disgaeahourofdarkness,makaikingdom,cursedmemories,3, disgaea"> <META NAME="description" CONTENT="A website dedicated to Disgaea, Disgaea 2 and the subsequent spin offs, remakes and sequels. Tough luck, but it needs to be done.</p> <p>Secondly, I am looking for someone with awesome web design talents. There's more I'd like to do with this site, but with my current lack of skills, things are a bit hectic and aren't getting done. If you'd like to help email <a href=mailto:'admin@thedisgaeafan.net'>Me</a> to apply. I'm will to wait for Disgaea DS for a good while, I'm much more excited about Disgaea 3! Sure playing Pleinair in Disgaea DS will be fun, but come on, this is Disgaea 3. Seriously. <br> <h1> Disgaea DS</h1> <p class="date"> May 30, 2008</p> <p>The Japanese trailer for Disgaea DS has been released and some fantastic footage it is indeed. I've also been working on a new design for the site, mostly because I'm bored out of my mind with the current layout, looking at it a bit too long I think. Anyway, updates to come, stay tuned I suppose.</p> </br> <h1>Forums</h1> <p class="date">March 15, 2008</p> <p>The new forum is up, has been for some time, we're a growing community of great people, and you should join us. 10. Yes, it's on my server, which has PHP installed, and I'm view the link straight from the internet. When I view the page's source, it comes up blank too. Could it be a server side problem?
  11. I made the changes that you all suggested, but it's still just a blank page. D:
  12. I tried to add that code to my page and instead of showing the links I have saved in the file, it doesn't show anything at all. And when I use Firefox to view the page source as I'm looking at it, it comes up blank. That's where I inserted it. </head> <body> <div id="container"> <div id="header"></div> <div id="main_right"> <? include ('affiliatelinks.php') ?> Here's the code for the other file I'm trying to include. <html> <head> </head> <body> <h1>Affiliates</h1> <ul> <ol><a href="http://www.hallowhall.net/">Hallow Hall</a></ol> <ol><a href="http://www.ffproject.net">Final Fantasy Project</a></ol> <ol><a href="http://www.goldenocarina.com">Golden Ocarina</a></ol> <ol><a href="http://www.neo-dynasty.com/disgaea">Eien no Senritsu </a></ol> <ol><a href="http://www.rpgreviewers.com">RPG Reviewers</a></ol> </ul> </body> </html> What am I doing wrong?
  13. I feel foolish for not realising how simple this stuff is. Thank you! :c)
  14. I have a website with upwards of 20 pages of content. Each page has an 'Affiliate's' tab where my list of affiliates are located. When I add a new affiliate, I have to go through each page individually, just to add one. I use a CSS/HTML div style for my website, but I want a quicker more efficient way to edit and add links. I heard that PHP does it and that SHTML does it, but I don't know anything about either. I don't want a fancy doo-dad, I just don't want to have to spend 30 minutes jumping from section to section, page to page to add links, and I don't want to stop taking affiliates. Oh, and it's a gaming site. What would be the best way to accomplish my task?
