Thanks Wickham, I'll correct tonight. As you can tell, I'm still mastering teh very basics. I'm not sure what's best for my images and tables - when they are viewd on alarge monitor, the tables aren't displayed central - is there a way of doing this? Are tables the best method, or can you make any 'simple' suggestions? BTW - what do you think of the look, for a begginer? Thanks again, Dave

The site is www.midlandsreptiles.com - you can see the left border stretches from the footer, and to the top, but the right doesn't. When I type in the main column it goes over the top. Cheers, Dave

Hi all, A very basic question for you guys: I have a column on the left and my main section - I want to add a right column via CSS. It's appeared but is not right to the top, which means when I add text to the main column it pushes the right column down the page, and the text just fills the whole area. Here is my code: ....... thanks in advance. * {font-size:14px;line-height:150%;} /*Allows a standard font size and style throughout*/ html{height:100%;} body{background:#000;height:100%;color:#FFF;background-image: url(Background-1.jpg); background-repeat: no-repeat} /* this is the same as {background-color:#000000;} */ p{margin:10px;line-height:150%;font-size:14px;} /* this give any paragraph tags you wrap around your text <p>My line of text</p> a nice 5px space around it and spacing between lines to read easier */ a{text-decoration:none;color:#fff;padding:10px}/* this is a global declaration for <a href="page.html"> of no underlining and a colour grey */ a:hover{color:#666;} h1{font-size:24px;} h2{font-size:22px;} h3{font-size:20px;} h4{font-size:18px;} h5{font-size:16px;} img{border:0px} /***** Main Container ****/ /*Standard width that Mal reccomends is 960px*/ #mainCotainer{margin:0 auto;width:960px;height:100%;} /* this gives you margin 0px top & bottom and auto give you equal distance from left and right */ #header{float:left;width:100%;} /* header section for logo */ #navigation{float:left;width:100%;border-top:1px solid #333;border-bottom:1px solid #333;padding:10px;} /* main Navigation section */ #mainContent{float:right;width:100%;min-height:70%;padding:0px;} /* main content */ /*Below is where the main structure is designed - the left column that floats at 20% is the advertisment section*/ #leftColumn{float:left;width:20%;border:1px solid #333;padding:5px;height:100%;} #mainColumn{float:right;width:20%;padding:5px;height:100%;} #rightColumn{float:right;width:20%;border:1px solid #333;padding:5px;height:100%;} /*This is the code given by Mal to allow ext wrap*/ .articleImageLeft { float: left; margin: 0 5px 0 0; } .articleImageRight { float: right; margin: 0 0 0 5px; } #footer{float:left;width:100%;border-top:1px solid #333;padding:0px;} /* footer setion for copyright etc.... */
  4. Hi thanks for the reply - it's most appreciated. Still a little technical for me. I assume the errors are in the HTML pages and not the CSS page page then. In simple terms what should I change? Could you tell me step by step what to paste in where - if it's not to time consuming of course I'm still unfamiliar with the lingo Thanks, Dave
  5. Hi all, As with many on here I'm new with web design. I could have paid for a site but want the satisfaction of creating my own. My friend has helped me but I'm driving him mad I think, so though I'd ask a number of open questions. I have a main body section and a left column - the left column will be for random images, adverts and bits of text etc..., on my mac it looks fine, but when I look on a work computer or other browsers, the images or text are way down low - it's driving me crazy. Here is the site: http://midlandsreptiles.com/ If you click on the 'Adder Diaries' image shows right at the bottom, and also if you follow the link there are two pictures on the adder diaries page that also do the same. I'm very very basic so if anybody responds it needs to be a step-by-step instruction please One other thing: I had to use the 'no-repeat' option for the background image in DW 'Page Properties', but I believe it should work directly from CSS - I've spent all night trying to get it to work, and it doesn't - any ideas? I believe it should also then work for every page, but I have had to manually go into the adder diaries page to set it there too. Thanks in advance. Dave
  6. Hi guys im new on this site and although have spent a couple of years playing about with Web Design I feel that im moving backwards not forwards. I was hoping you couls help me on a few areas 1, i want to try and make my background have a fade from one colour to another, i have seen this on alton towers web site where it fades from dark blue to white ( www.altontowers.com ) 2, I also love the drawings they have on there, on the home page they have a fantastic drawing. I understand ill not be able to produce drawings like this but can anybody point me in the right direction of where to start and how they do this? 3, websites such as this seem not to have everything in tables but it all seems to float about and still be viewed on any screen, any ideas how they do this, i use tables and its so hard to add images and txt in various different tables without something moving out of place etc... I know im prob asking real basic and daft questions but like i said im new to this game guys, any pointers would be most appreciated. Thanks Dave midlandsreptiles.com dave@midlandsreptiles.com
