Most of the things listed in that Magento article are irrelevant to SEO.
As long as you can create custom page title and a meta description you have all the SEO tools you need. Everything else is down to your skills at creating product descriptions, imagery and alt tags and the way you categorise and organise your website.
How many item do you plan to sell? This can influence the platform you choose. If you only have a few items there may be better ways to sell than set up and market your own website.
PS: Just looked at the Magento SEO article again - it's full of errors and inaccurate information.
