Domain from alias to own cpanel
Thank you. All I have for the domain is a single email address. I wish to use it as a website so it needs its own cpanel account. The domain it sits on as an alias is a fully formed website and entirely separate. I think it was added as an alias as I only had a 5cpanel license and it was only an email. I know have 30 and would like if to have its own. I assume the website it sits on won’t be affected in any way?

Domain from alias to own cpanel
I have a domain and it was setup for me as an alias on another cPanel account. I only ever used it for a single email address. I think aliases no longer exist in cPanel and it is just listed as a domain. I wish to move it to its own cPanel account so it can have its own cPanel settings eg website, SQL etc. This would all be on the same virtual server (ie the same IP address) in the same WHM It looks like I do this by creating a new cPanel account with the domain in WHM and then removing the domain from the original cPanel. I imagine I would lose any emails saved on the server etc but as long as I use the same login credentials in the new cPanel then the email would continue to work. If I create an email with the same credentials and logon, will the server know to find it in the new account and not look in the old cPanel? It's a very important email address and although downtime is ok I can't lose it. Is it this simple or am I missing something? What is the best sequence to avoid anything getting confused?

Whitelabel website for multiple companies - affiliate scheme
This has all the info re the product - data, images, pricing, FAQs, how the ordering works etc in 2 or 3 pages. The point also being these are branded to the various companies. The companies themselves won't be hosting a huge amount of info about the services we offer. The end-user would click through and read more about it before (hopefully) placing an order.

Whitelabel website for multiple companies - affiliate scheme
Gurus, we have a website for people to order online and it runs and ranks well. I am looking to create a white-label version for non-competing but same-customer-sector companies to me to place links to on their website. Below is my thoughts on setting it up and wanted any advice/feedback. Lets say I get 2+ companies on board, comA and comB. Their customers would be the end users who order through my site and the companies get an affiliate commission I get a generic domain, eg, a-product.com. I create subdomains eg, comA.a-product.com and comB.a-product.com. It contains the same info but branded to each company. The companies link to their relevant subdomains and that’s where the end users go to. They all then lead to the same non-branded ordering subdomain, eg order.a-product.com. The website will be hidden from search engines. The root will be either password protected or not contain anything. It’s not the end of the world if an end user moves to another subdomain but as there’s no links between them and the root is empty, it would be hard for them to do so or even bother. The only way an end-user would ever get to it is via comA/B etc Does this approach make sense?

Advice on buying a competitor's domain
Thank you. I suspect if I don't buy it someone else will so leaving it to expire would be risky. My ranking is getting better month on month but for a minor amount it seems silly to not exploit a domain that already ranks quite highly, even if for only a few months. "Start scraping their site content (or pay someone in Asia to do it for you). Rebrand and make it go live on the day you switch ownership." Would that mean running both sites simultaneously?

Advice on buying a competitor's domain
Thank you. They have been around for 20 odd years so I suspect they rank well as they were one of the first and longevity. Their process is now outdated hence why I suspect the business is being wound down. We do pretty much the same thing but our is mostly online (similar to the rest of us in the market) whereas theirs was a slow manual process (nobody does it their way anymore) We are not interested in buying their business (ie customer list) as they are asking a huge amount for that and it is simply not worth the amount they are asking (I know the number of accounts/orders/profits and how much that is worth) . However the domain is being sold quite cheap (roughly 2 months of my google ad spend) to the point of inconsequential. So the cost to me is negligible, I am just working out the best use of it.

Advice on buying a competitor's domain
Dear All, I have a side business that sells to colleges/universities. The uni signs up but we sell directly to the students. A competitor is closing down their business. I am looking to buy their domain – not the website, just the domain. The main reason is their domain ranks far higher than mine. I have a domain that ranks quite low as it is new but works well and has the full ordering system built into it. It is also branded to my company name. The domain I am looking to buy is just an acronym so doesn’t really mean anything. So, my question is what do I put on the bought domain? Do I put a copy of my website with some notice saying they are now part of my group and run both? Use 301 redirect to my existing domain but presumably take a hit on the SEO for the new good one? Close my existing domain and move everything to the new one but lose the branded url I currently have? All my existing customers will need to be moved to the new domain which will also take a bit of explaining If I do run both, it would be too messy to run ordering on the both, I would need to run it on just one so any orders will have to be directed to just one domain. Finally, they have a GBP which has pretty poor reviews (3*). Do I close that down as we are not buying the company or any history, just the domain?

Multi-store website
Apologies and I've only just seen this. Your approach sounds sensible, thank you.

Multi-store website
Thank you. Technically I can create it how I want (within reason!) - I've been learning all the way and can certainly do what you suggest. It's the best approach that I'm not sure about but I hear what you are saying and will go down that route. So, someone goes to location-A site then goes to generic-service-page-1, how do I show the location-A contact on the top of generic-service-page-1 if I haven't carried over some sort of session to tell it which tel/email to show? I can do it with a session or post/get etc? Same for knowing which location contact page to link to after visiting various generic pages?

Multi-store website
Thank you, I'll work on this. Sorry, new to all of this! So, I have almost a single page for each location with bespoke content and these can be in each subdomain and a contact page again in each sub domain. I then populate this page with various links to a single core, generic page for each service. I like to have the email and tel at the top of every page though, so how would that work out as when the user is on a generic page, I want them to have their 'local' email/tel? Maybe some sort of php session that knows the location and show the relevant content and also adapts the contact page? If so, what do I show when the google search takes them directly to a services page and not via a location? So, I had to order some photos last week from Snappy snaps so is a good example. https://www.snappysnaps.co.uk/ Their website leads you to select a store. If you choose one, say https://www.snappysnaps.co.uk/lincoln/ all their services page are within that store eg https://www.snappysnaps.co.uk/lincoln/personalised-gifts That means presumably they're repeating the services pages over and over again for each store. Is that the 'bad idea' you mention above? This idea was my original idea of setting it up or maybe there's a difference I can't see.

Multi-store website
It's more of a services business rather than products. Think of it like a restaurant franchised. People will want to know they're on the website for their local business. The language used will be specific to that location but a lot of the content will be generic. The online ordering will be <5% and they can all go to the same place for that as it is delivered.
-
Multi-store website
There will be one section for online ordering (they'll all point to the same place) but that is a small part of the business. Bulk will be via email or in store. Yes, a franchise is the closest idea and branded the same.

Multi-store website
Ok, thank you, I will investigate your suggestions further. Each store will act more of a standalone for the local area. The prices, services and some customisations to the local market will be on each page. Each store will be submitted in its own right to google maps. Each would be a local website so I would want some in town1 to find the business in town1 only either google search of more likely google maps. What they then see are the main services but the page with variable data for the local area and relevant to them.

Multi-store website
Thank you. No, each store will have it's own content throughout the site and it varies between stores. There's about 95% generic but a number of items on each page is specific to that store. Each store has around 20 pages each with 10+ variable data on each page.

Multi-store website
I have a store and a PHP website with around 30 pages that I'm happy with. We are opening up 4 more stores and want each to have a near identical website but store customisation (phone, address, email etc etc). I wanted to explain my plan, which I can do, but wanted to see if this was a bad idea... Create a sub domain for each store. Keep all the existing pages as the generic content. Each subdomain which just include each of the existing pages but have another small php include in each subdomain for variable data. eg ************* mygenericfile1.php: echo "my tel is " . $mytel; ************* store1info.php: $mytel = "123456"; ************* myactualwebpage.php: include store1info.php: include mygenericfile1.php; ************* I can get this to work and the above is just a sketch, but is this approach going to cause me any problems? I could put the store variable data in mysql but that seems effectively the same way, just a different place to store it. Thanks in advance

MySQL port per domain
Dear gurus. I have a virtual server with a number of domains. For PCI compliance I need on one of them to switch off the 3306 port. In another I need to change the port. On the others I want to leave them as is (open on 3306 but only allowed from given IP). I believe this is done in config files located in the etc folder for each domain and can be done in cPanel. My question is, are all these mysql ports independent per domain? My worry is there one instance of mysql on my virtual server, and if I change the port on one domain it’ll change it for all and mess them all up.

Import JS safety
Thank you for the offer. It's a large number of files so I won't take your time. I am sure it's ok as I've seen the developer's site and all seems legit. I suppose I am just talking generally about going forward. There's so many JS and PHP and CSS things you can find online, I guess I just wanted to know what people do or do they blindly include stuff?

Import JS safety
I'm idly wanting to run a small script that picks up data from BMW's api and I have found a JS library online (GitHub) that does all this. Looks like it's been written by an individual developer. As I have little experience in this, what are the potential security implications for importing an unknown library that is far too large for me to understand? ie could this library contain malware and am I at risk of uploading it to my server? I have Imunify360 on my server - is a scan from that sufficient?

Easier to spell second domain
I'm a bit suspicious too hence why I am not sure. I thought changing domain is an SEO killer?
-
Easier to spell second domain
I have a domain which performs well and I don't really want to change it. However, it is quite hard to spell. Is it sensible to create an easier to spell domain on printed material only for people who are typing it in and redirect to my original? Is using different urls depending on the media a bad idea?

Consolidating pages, new links and anchoring
Which is what I am proposing. I'll work out a better way as my suspicion was that it's not a good idea. Thanks
-
Consolidating pages, new links and anchoring
Thank you. Are anchors still widely used to jump to relevant sections of another page?
-
Consolidating pages, new links and anchoring
I have 10 core products, lets call them A to J. My old website had a page for each but I wish to consolidate them as the user experience is not great as many of the products are related. My new site will give products A to D each their own page as they're big independent sellers and have lots of bespoke info for each. I wish to put E to J on a single page as they're related so the user scrolling through them all will be the best experience. My question...on the index page, I wish to have an image and link for each of the 10 products. E to J will now all link to the same page. Is using an anchor still best practice so the user arrives at the correct part of the page? Or do I just put them at the top of the page for them to scroll down and see all that is on offer? I could potentially even work out how to re-order the page so when the user clicks on a link, a parameter in the link will use a PHP script to put what they want at the top...or is that overly complicating it and potentially ruining SEO?

Should I split my website?
Oh it's a service that the majority of schools around here already do for fund raising and typically 50% of the parents use. We'll be offering double the financial incentive for the first year of schools who switch to - parents pay the same, school makes double the income. We're working also quite hard on making the admin the schools encounter less than the competitors. The ordering process is all ready to go (it's an adapted version of our various other B2C services we've been offering for many years). We've already signed up a handful of provisional schools for testing. It's now the best way to proceed with creating the website structure for SEO and Google really.
