Haha! Man do I feel like a tit! Can't believe I missed it after staring at it for so long! (I am not billing the client for this!!!) I don't suppose you know if active states work with inner page link anchors? The idea is that when a tab is selected, it displays the active state as long as you are viewing the content for that tab. I am using a jQuery script called 'tabify' which is good and lightweight, but this is something I can't figure out (again). Don't worry if you haven't the time...think I have got my money's worth lol!

Stevo - I have never met you, and I am heterosexual man - but I think I love you. It has been wracking my brains for hours!!! I guess no matter how long you have been building sites, it's still the stupid things that get you! I don't suppose you can assist in another aspect of the menu? I want it to be so that when a tab is selected, the active style shows (a red tab) - for some reason, this isn't happening - I can't figure it out (and I'm no jQuery whizz!) Cheers man Ed

Hi everyone I am at the stage a designer often gets when you just can't figure something out and feel like banging your head off a wall really hard! Please can you help? Firstly, visit Link to the offending site Basically I want my content to be tabbed. On the left is a menu set up using an unordered list and on the right is the content - each section in a separate container. I am using a jQuery script I found online called Tabify. Basically my tabs are really screwed up and I can't figure out why! Many thansk in advance!

Well thanks for all your opinions. I am thinking that maybe this website doesn't need to be horizontal and that it might be best to stick with the norm. Btw - I am newcomer and usually go on designerstalk to ask these questions but the guys on there are like mega-hard designers and can be quite abrasive and rude!

Agree with all you said Rachael. The site is designed to be 768 pixels high and thus vertical scrolling would follow which is highly annoying. That is what is making me rethink using horizontal format for this site - I can't reduce the content! Oh and - I have to clear the usage of the poem in the background (by Rudyard Kipling) with the client - not sure if he will think I have romanticised landscape gardening too much :-)

I am not one for defying convention - some people say that making a horizontal website is just to be unique. So what? Is unique not what web designers are often meant to deliver - differentiating the client's site from all the others? If it is intuitive and clean is that not all that matters?

Can't show you the website I'm afraid - it exists merely as a test site on my testing server. I am surprised by your positive response. Are you of the opinion that usability/accessibility issues can be overcome with such sites? How in particular?

I would really like to find out what people think of horizontally scrolling websites. From what I have read elsewhere, opinion is divided. I have designed a site which is horizontal and which I feel is quite organic and usable for site users - rather than the user having to use the browser scrollbar they select the options and the page fluidly takes them there, but horizontally.
