I develop a web site for my local choir. I really need a system that will allow me to test the website thoroughly automatically. Ideally I would like to be able to design test sequences which would for example look like: Go to URL http://choir-stmaryssaffronwalden.org, and check that the login page appears correctly (this implies that all elements of the page appear correctly, in the correct place, and visible). Log in as test.member with the correct password, and check that the welcome page appears correctly. Click the button See Ticklist, and check that the ticklist appears correctly. Go to the test-only page clear-ticks.php, and check that test.member's ticks are all blank. Set the first event to tick, and click Save Changes. Check that the tick has been registered on the form, and that nothing else has changed. Set the second event to cross, and click Save Changes. Check that the cross has been registered on the form, and that nothing else has changed. Click test.member's username link, and check that the Edit Member page appears correctly. etc. The key elements seem to be: to be able to find elements on the page by their ID or name or other properties, and to be able to click them or enter text or change selections etc. to be able to verify that all the expected elements on a newly displayed page appear in the correct place, and with the correct content, and are fully visible (i.e. that nothing that should not be there has appeared on top of them. It should be possible to test on multiple screen/window sizes It should be possible to test on multiple platforms and browsers, including Android, iOs, IE for Windows, Chrome for Windows, Firefox for Windows, Edge for Windows, Safari for Macintosh. For example, some Apple users currently have some problems with my website that I cannot find, because I don't have an Apple device. I need a way to test the system that will find these bugs, and allow me to fix them. Preferably it should be possible to develop the test script by a learning method (i.e. I put the system into learning mode, and follow the above steps, and it will learn the actions that I take and the way the website responds), although I don't mind writing code if that's the best way to do it. Preferably the test tool or system should be free to use (at least for small projects like this) because there is no source of funds for this apart from my pocket - the site does not earn any revenue and the choir does not have spare cash. Yes, now I can see it in both browsers. So I suppose the design is OK, and I can publish this in the belief that people will be able to see it without annoying error messages. As you say, I suppose it must have been something to do with having recently updated the web page. The redirect is to allow me to use the web host that I use for my main web site (sylvesterbradley.org) but make the URL a lot shorter, which makes the QR code a lot smaller. It may be redundant now, but it wasn't when I started this (some years ago). Thank you - Rowan

I have a web page s-br.org/rsbh.htm which gives a 404 error when using Chrome. When using Firefox, it works fine. Why can Chrome not see this page? What changes do I have to make to my website to enable Chrome users to see this page without confusing error messages? In any case, the error message "The page you are looking for is not found" is obviously misleading since the page is obviously there, since Firefox can see it. Thank you - Rowan

Part of my web site design (PHP running on Linux server) sends a link to the user via e-mail containing a 32 character key as a GET parameter. So the link looks like this: https://sylvesterbradley.org/swchoir/edit_member.php?x=1&key=0V88jzAfEQfZ6QcIID5BdeuLvQxuGOiG. The user is asked to click the link, which takes him to a page where (if the link matches what we have stored in the database, and has not time expired) he can enter a new password. Sometimes when such a link is clicked, the $_GET variable is empty, i.e. is equal to []. Why might this be? How do I find out what is going wrong and fix it? Thank you - Rowan

I am working on a website developed in PHP to run on a Linux Apache server. After some recent changes my session variables seem to have gone haywire. One of my pages creates a new session and then logs the value of the $_SESSION array using var_dump. I believe my hosting company will not allow me to use one hosting account to host more than one web-site, or more than one domain (even though the amount of space taken by these sites, and the traffic generated, is only a small fraction of what I'm allowed on one account). I seem to have found a way of getting this to work. I have to include in each <a> element an attribute target='mainframe'. Then it seems to be able to send the request to the right place. I don't really understand why this is. What is the browser trying to do with a link pointing to http://choir-stmaryssaffronwalden.org/index.php if I don't include the target attribute? This URL seems complete and unambiguous to me, so I don't understand why the browser can't find it when the link is included in a frame, although it CAN find it when you enter the URL into the address bar. I am developing a website at http://choir-stmaryssaffronwalden.org. Every request to this URL is forwarded by framed forwarding to my web server at sylvesterbradley.org. Links on my web pages don't work. For example, if you go to http://choir-stmaryssaffronwalden.org and then click the Help on this Page button, it correctly goes to the Help page. If you then click on the Login link in the breadcrumb trail, which is a link <a href="http://choir-stmaryssaffronwalden.org/index.php">Login</a>, it just sits there and doesn't do anything. If I enter the linked URL http://choir-stmaryssaffronwalden.org/index.php into a new browser tab, then it works fine. Can you explain why these links are not working? I'm trying to include some images with shadows on the right hand side and bottom in my web sites, like the poster on this page (http://www.grantachorale.org.uk/event027.php), but often the bottom shadow gets cut off, like the lower image on this page (http://www.signuptosing.org/). I've tried many things to fix it, but I can't find a trick that works every time. It must be something to do with the width and height of the image, the width and height of the image with the shadow, and the width and height of the element that the image is inside. Can someone please advise me a reliable way of achieving what I'm trying to achieve? If you think you might know the asnwer and want to see my web pages, please send me an e-mail and I'll send you links to them. I can't find a way of incorporating the links (or even images of them) in this post - it keeps rejecting them beacuse I'm not important enough. Thanks - Rowan
