Hi,
What language would be best to build a job website?
(I don't mean the CSS stuff - I mean the other stuff (the back end, if that's the right terminology).
And would it depend on whether it's a job website like Elance, where it's mainly freelance, or a regular job website like Monster?
As I understand, the options are ASP or PHP or possibly Java or ColdFusion
Somebody has told me that PHP would be good. But another person has said that high-usership sites or sites that are database based would be better in ASP.
I've looked at different sites and found that lots are in ASP, but some are in PHP:
(I don't know a lot about programming and I'm simply looking in the url to find the words PHP or ASP - if that's the right way to go about it. I'm not sure if that means the whole site is built in that language.)
Job sites that I think are in PHP:
Elance.com
Odesk.com
Sites that I think are in ASP:
Monster.com
Guru.com
IrishJobs.ie
Nixers.com
RentACoder.com
RecruitIreland.com
ColdFusion:
DesignQuote.net
I found more sites in ASP than PHP, but then some big sites like Facebook are in PHP as far as I can see.
So what would be the relative merits of the different languages for a job website? And would it depend on whether it was an Elance-like site or a Monster-like site?
Thanks.
