The thing is that what i'm about to do is learn the BASICS of WEB DESIGN + HTML and CSS, guys. My intention here is not to become a David Heinemeier Hansson + a Picasso of Web Design in such a short period of time. i WILL become a ruby on rails app developer... but like i said, i'm here for the LONG RUN. So, again fellas: THE BASICS in 12 weeks so i can speak as an ''equal'', on a theoretical knowledge level, to a professional developer. Nothing more than that ; ) I need to know how the heck my business works on it's tech backend. And since it's 100% web based, this is a must for me, as someone who wants to be a pretty decent CEO for it's team and business.

Anyway, i know you british have this kind of negative outlook on life sometimes, you know... and it must be because of the non stop raining that you people face there, lol. Anyway fella...i'm glad that you helped me out big time. The initial enthusiasm naturally will fade away once i start focusing some of my time on actually learning how to code...but my dreams will be still on my mind once it happens. LOL... haha'. If you wanna know Eoin, i really don't care about how hard learning code can be. Entrepreneurship is a maraton, not a sprint...and i'm here for the long run. I really need to know those things, because having total control in all areas of your business it's a must. Of course i'll hire developers if we succeed on our endeavor, but i want to talk to them as an equal, not a noob. This process needs to happen eventually, if you want to make it big you know. It's the right and natural flow of things. I'm just going straight to it since the beginning of my career as a Founder and CEO of eletronic businesses. Like i said, it will give me at least an really good edge. Again, thank you very,very much for your help and time. So it's already schedule: know the basics of HTML, CSS and PHP....and then, finally, learn how to develop apps on ruby on rails ; ) And yeah...my question about the button is regarding only the estetic side of it. How it looks, you know. Like a said, detail fixing in general. Which is best, on your opinion: lynda.com or tutsplus?

Now.... let's say that i want to implement a new action button design on our home page. 4 weeks it's not enought to learn how to do that? You know... simple details fixing?

Hi there Eoin...thanks for your insight man. I've been playing around with web design on paint/photoshop/bluevoda and i got to say that i always make a professional looking home page (and that's the opinion of others, not only mine!). You know..that's due my knowledge about minimum design, drawing, copy writing, typography and marketing. I really know what makes a good web page really good, in both estetic and comercial sides of it . The only thing i lack is the technical knowledge you know..CSS, HTML and stuff. I really think that once i sit my ass on my office's chair and start to study the tech side of web design, i'll get good at it fast. It seems that 4 weeks it's impossible, and i got it. But i think 12 weeks is the right shot for me. In 12 weeks, i really think that i can learn the basics and how to work correctly using what i would know so far. It would mean that, at least, i would be able to make little changes on details of the home page of my start up's web site. I've heard of lynda...but i'm a member of tutsplus premium, especially for their ruby on rails course that i'm really considering taking. You know... i really like the idea of creating something from scratch using your own hands. And i'm in love too with the ideia of becoming a ruby on rails developer, since my main focus after we launch our product will be transforming it on a web app, way more user friendly than wordpress - and after that, i want to expand it to mobile, making it a android app aswell. So...since i'll definitely learn how to become a app engineer, i need to know the technical side of DESIGN as well to be a complete professional. I know that it wil be a long process, especially for me since i'm the CEO of a start up. But if i work hard on it, i really think that at least i'll have enought knowledge to know how things work in my business on a technical level (which is really a edge for a CEO)

I know that depends on the person, but is there a medium time expectation? And were can i find good education to learn from? Thanks again.

Hi there guys! I’m the founder and CEO of a upcoming start up company and i’m facing a big problem here. We are developing a great educational, video based product, which we believe that will become a hit on the e-market of our specific niche. In fact, we’re the first ones that’ll do what we are about to do on our niche of choice. The thing is that we have no body on our team who is a web developer/engineer, nor a web designer. So we hired a Indian professional from Odesk to create our website. Please don’t get it rong, the guy is a awesome professional. He runs his own hosting business, is legit and have his stuff together (all this got proved). Plus, he was really frank when it comes to what he can do, with our limited web developing budget. But the things is that now I’m getting to the conclusion (don’t know if is the right one) that we’re creating too much of a GREAT product (on a video production, editing and content level) to be showed on such a amateur way, since we don’t have the money to launch the website looking the way we want it looking. The developer that we hired charged us 2K to develop the website from scratch, including the design. He said that the best choice for us, taking as reference our budget, is to start things up using wordpress. We want to create a membership website. So, the developer is using the wordpress platform, a wordpress plug in to make it membership and a wordpress premium theme for the design. Now… i’m having two doubts here: Is wordpress a good choice to start things off? Can it limit us in any way, especially when it comes to the scalability of our business? Using a wordpress theme can limit us when it comes to the design of our website? Despite of the possible answers for those two questions, we have the fact that if we don’t get a developer/designer on our team asap, or if nobody on our current team learns how to develop and design a website, our independency to grow and change things on the go will be jeopardized by our need of a developer that have his own **** to do and that we don’t even know personally – not mentioning the costs that we’ll have paying the guy every time that we need to change something. So, the main thing is…. If using wordpress is really a good choice to start with (I was told some weeks ago that there’s no problem, in our case, to go with wordpress for now), can I learn from scratch how to design on a wordpress platform (I think that wordpress uses CSS,right?) in ONE MONTH? I’m a very quick learner and already have some knowledge on how to design a nice looking website, on a esthetical/commercial/copy writing/marketing level. And if it’s really possible, what are the best sources of education that I can find on the web to get it done? I’m a tutsplus premium member… is there a course on tutsplus that I can learn from? My objective here is to get the website pre-made from the developer that we hired and work on it from there, redesigning it and making it look exactly how we want it (and need it). We want to have a clean, simple yet very professional design that we already have in mind.
