Thanks Fractal Fragger. Some sound advice there. Building a codebase is definitely a great piece of advice for the future and something I hadn't thought of. What are the best sources for online tutorial, ones with up to date standards? I've looked at Tuts+ (which I like), and Treehouse.

Hey there everyone! As the title suggests I am a newbie to web design and all it has to offer. Why web design I hear you ask? Well, it's an area I've an interest in for quite some time now. After several different jobs and careers paths I've finally gone full circle and decided to follow the career path in something that excites me! I'm IT 'savvy', so not dreaming the impossible dream hear, but I'm in desperate need of guidance of which direction to head. So far I am partially self taught in HTML, XHTML & CSS (I say partially, as I'm unsure as to when you are fully capable, what's the measurement?). I used well recommend books to get to this level. Where I need your help is: - How do I know when I am competent in my self taught markup languages? - What other languages do you recommend as a next step? - Why, in your opinion, is the right time to offer web design services to clients? - Is self taught the best option? What alternatives do you suggest? - Any tips going forward based upon your own experiences? I know it's a lot of a newbie to ask, but I would really appreciate your help in getting me into the wonderful world of web design! Thanks Ben
