  1. Thanks, Ill write it down for next time.
  2. Nothing ever works for me. Even the most simple things. For example I just followed a tutorial - "creating a simple jquery enabled page" The tutorial showed a basic alert to test j-query but did the alert work for me?? No of course not. Not in safari nor in firefox. Here is the code for my html - <!doctype html> <head> <meta charset="utf-8"> <title>jquery</title> <script type="text/javascript" src="../jquery-1.6.4.min.js"></script> <link rel="stylesheet" href="styles.css" type="text/css" /> <script src="script.js" type="text/javascript"></script> </head> <body> <div id="wrapper"> <header> </header> <div id="main"> </div> <footer> </footer> </div> </body> </html> And here is the js- $("document").ready(function() { alert("the page just loaded!"); }); Can someone please explain why no alert shows? I did exactly the same as the tut. I included the j-query script. All three are in the same folder so whats the prob??

Ok so now it works on some computers but not others?? How the hell do web developers do anything if you don't even know if the computer you're looking at is showing something different to another computer. Browsers are one thing but computers??

well then I guess I just give up. I seems o be doing everything right but still don't work. Im sick of spending hours and hours on one tiny little thing like this. How does anyone get anything done?? Im not learning, there has to be a better way.

Im not sure what the tutorials mean when they keep saying "The path is relative to the document not the stylesheet" I just put like this - behaviour:url(PIE.htc); Am I missing something here??
  8. teatowel replied to teatowel's topic in Frontend
Still not working, anyone can help please? Does the part that says 'url' have to be an actual url??
  9. teatowel replied to teatowel's topic in Frontend
The pie file, the html and the css are all in one folder named test
  10. teatowel replied to teatowel's topic in Frontend
Ok just tried that and still no luck. I also fixed the space you said.

Hi, Ive tried what you have suggested but no luck. I don't understand why. What am i doing wrong?
  12. teatowel posted a topic in Frontend
Im trying to figure out how to use pie.htc to make rounded corners work in internet explorer. So far no luck. Its most likely because Im not doing it correctly the reason being that as usual everything is explained in a jargon not understood by novices. (what is it with this , why doesnt anyone realise that we arent all geeks?) Anyway I was hoping that perhaps someone could possibly post an example of exactly how my html and css should look. Nothing complicated just a basic div with a rounded corned background. Im unclear about the path in this part - behavior: url(scripts/PIE.htc); The website Im looking at says -" Of course you will need to adjust the path to match where you uploaded PIE.htc in step 2. Note: this path is relative to the HTML file being viewed, not the CSS file it is called from." I dont know what it means by that. I have in a folder a html file a css file and pie htc file but my corners arent rounded? Here is a link to what Ive done so far- http://sites.cofa.unsw.edu.au/~z3347747/test/home.html

How do I get the header to all stay inline with the wrapper then if it is not inside it. Like if I put it outside then when I resize the browser the header just stays there and doesnt mover with the wrapper. Edit - is ok I just sorted that part. Still dont get how to make firefox and safari look the same though. No matter what I do, used reset , tried margins, tried everything, but my h1 headings are lower in firefox.
  14. teatowel replied to teatowel's topic in Frontend
yes this is what Im seeing also. Hi what is margin collapse issue?
  15. teatowel replied to teatowel's topic in Frontend
I dont get this. I just looked on both my macs - imac and macbook pro and its the same on both. So how can it be ok on yours? I just removed the @fontface and then the headings were ok but as soon as I put it back firefox screws up. Maybe I should just ditch it and use the usual boring web safe fonts. Any more clues anyone?
  16. teatowel replied to teatowel's topic in Frontend
Ok so I tried safe mode and it still looks wrong. Are you all using the latest version 7.0.1. This only started hapening after I updated. I dont know how to sort this out. What should I do?
  17. teatowel replied to teatowel's topic in Frontend
But what about the headings? You said they look the same? Are you sure?
  18. teatowel replied to teatowel's topic in Frontend
really?? Hmm so thats another problem then because my firefox has the shadow. I cleared the cache in firefox and it made no difference. Here is a screenshot of what it looks like in firefox to me. http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/843/screenshot20111018at105.png/ And here is safari- http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/189/screenshot20111018at105.png/ I am sooo never going to be web developer. Seriously youd have to be a masochist

If I have the @fontface in a seperate file it works in firefox but once I put it in my own css file it doesnt work. Im just gonna keep it seperate. Cant be bothered with it.

Hi its me again So Im doing this project for uni and this is my site that Ive had to create - http://sites.cofa.unsw.edu.au/~z3347747/assignment3/Indexhome.HTML Anyways I am having trouble with the main heading - "gethappy.com" up the top and the subheading - "welcome". In safari it looks fine but in firefox its in a different position even though I am using a css reset. The reset usually works, this is the first time Ive had such a problem but for some reason I cant get the headings to be the same. Please dont even bother looking in any other browser because I dont care how it looks except for safari and firefox. Its due on friday so I need urgent help. Thanks

God I hate javascript. I so wanted to learn it but nowhere is there a tutorial that actually teaches it well for beginners. Every single tutorial I do to try and add some effects with jquery to my website fails to work. I follow every step but there is always something not explained clearly enough so that I waste hours to no avail . It is the most frustrating experience. Im so sick of this attitude that hey its all so easy just follow these easy steps and youll be on your way to making your website really cool. Its such BS. Every single time I get stumped by something. If its not the failure of the person who made the tutorial to realise that not everyone understands geeky techno jargon talk then its their failure to realise that if they dont include every single step then I dont miraculously add the missing ones in. Im so over it.
  25. How the hell do I make my webpage compatible across all browsers. I know about the css global reset but what about everything else?? If I change something to suit one browser then won't it look bad in another? How is this done? Thanks
