You dont have to design logo's in vector format if they are not going to be used on mainstream print items and bill-boards.... It was very obvious this logo is never going to leave the web (if it does then more power to you) but often I get my ideas down in photo shop first and then bring it to illustrator when I need to. but why go through the extra trouble?

Also root host unless you like the dark boarder around your logo (avatar) you should probably use something like this.
