  1. ravelinks.com is probably the closest thing to what i'm after, but a UK version
  2. quite right mike, maybe I need to expand it into area where it is, because 'nightlife' is a pretty broad subject, I just need to target the area which is most popular, although many people like to go out go clubbing.... they just go out and go clubbing. What I initally wanted to do is create it for mobile, so the user, enters an unknown city (weekend away) flicks up talknightlife, and it tell you wants going out that night, via twitter. Theres all the popular bars tweeting in each section, of their £1 drinks, free entries etc. And I know people could just go on their twitter and just follow those people, but if its their for them to see without, after having the hassel of following all these bars, and bars which they don't know exsist, because there not from the area. get what I mean? But it shouldn't be a main focus on the forum. The focus of the forum in my mind is changing from one idea to the next. Enlighten me
  3. Bit of a dispute going on here So are we coming to a conclusion that fake account, posting relevant content 'can work' to getting it up and running, but needing the addition of a main website to back it up, eg nightlife website guide.com or sumit along the lines, heavily linking back to the forum? obviously more is needed to make the forum progress further. I currently have a few backlinks from related nightlife websites, working on getting more but its slow progress working on adding related twitter users, like freshers, whos not been to there chosen university city. Going to user Fiverr to generate me a few posts to make it look active, (its £3.75) for 10 - 20 posts, its pennys isn't it Don't know whether you know, but vbulletin has a CMS addon suite, to add onto. So instead of making an additional website, I could upgrade to this and write articles/blogs, relating to nightlife (what you think about this) . Brighton mike, am not hating on you, but there isn't any nightlife forums for the UK out there, search it in google, you get talknightlife . com which is dedicated to Los Angeles nightlife Canary Nightlife Forum Dubai Nightlife Forums Phuket Nightlife Forum - Thailand Pattaya Nightlife Forum But no UK dedicated nightlife forum, all the ones above are active, Even the Dubai forum is and thats country which doesn't even drink!! So why can't the Binge Nation of the world have a UK nightlife forum ? this why I created this forum. But maybe I'd going the wrong way about it, eg set up of the forums, layout, theme etc, hench the reason to get help off of you guys, which I'm very appreciative about, I really am.
  4. Cheers for your input guys, i've come up with this Strategy... wat u think? This is my Strategy With my forum not containing many posts/threads/member (catch 22 of any new forum) I'm going create threads and posts expected to be in there e.g: whats nightlife like in ....(specific city)? Hen Night Out In ...specific city...., Where Shall we go? Where to go in ..city... on a nightout? Taxi numbers in ..city.. you get the idea. The logic to my thinking is a forum is a place to get the information from, for that specific subject. So why don't I put all the basic threads/posts in myself & fake accounts (to look authentic) A lot of the information I need to gather to make these posts are spread all over the place, yahoo answers, answers, forum off topic sections. All I have to do is rewrite it. comments would be much appreciated cheers Luke
  5. TG, at the moment I use vbulletin's rss feeder taking it from api . twitter . com/bla bla and using vbulletin to filter through the content, are you saying there is a better way?
  6. I totally understand what you mean, but nightlife changes all the time and articles/prices change all the time... What do you reckon, if i was to create a blog, make aload of guide to leeds nightlife, sheffield, liverpool etc, and link heavily to my forum? would that help? change one of the sections to, Club events, Dj Promotion, Upcoming events kinda thing. Search the net and fill it with a list of future events?
  7. So should I add, maybe, Cardiff, Edinburgh, Dublin, Bristol, London??? I thought adding more forums is going to make it worst?? or you think its better to add those, to gain more hits/members?
  8. hiya guys Thanks for the replies, it was set up about 5 months ago. It does get a few members register then go, but thats because its empty. Obviously I don't expect it to grow over night. I did create a forum 4 years ago, its got 60,000 members on it now, but i don't have anything to do with it anymore. Back then, which isn't that long ago, to set it up, i just wrote and wrote... and then it got popular, maybe I got lucky. I have a twitter page, 384 followers, I'm targetting, freshers (new students) to their new city. No facebook page (think I'll get onto that now) Colorful = What I've noticed people not using is twitter feeds to generate decent info. So all the bar's nightclubs, twitter account's automatically feed into each city section, sieveing through the rubbish, only stuff like, free entry, 2-4-1's, £1 drinks, only go through successfull, and thats on a schedule task for every 30min. Then it auto deletes after 48 hours. Reason for this, is When i went out in Leeds for the first time, I realized that theres no website, giving out 100% up to date info on bars & clubs. So this is in real time and no going out of date. What do you guys reckon to the concept? Thinking of ways to lure people in, maybe tell DJ's they can promote there Nights out in there? Any Ideas spring to mind? maybe loose afew areas? Thanks for your responses so far guys Luke
  9. Hiya guys New to the forum, I'm struggling with my website at the moment, trying to get it off the ground, looking for a few pointers people could suggest. I know a forum is one of the hardest things to get it off the ground, I somehow did it with an electricians forum (which I don't have anything to do with any more) My focus is on this nightlife forum for the UK which i've created. I want you to have alook at then give me some feedback to, changes, you should do this, why not try this... etc I don't want to post the URL, because i'll get in trouble so I'll do it in this www. talknightlife . co . uk Let me know guys, I'm getting a bit fed up! Cheers Lukescotty
  10. Hiya guys I've recently set up this forum, as its getting popular slowly, I'd like some proper feedback. I want to know whether the concept will work and whether people like yourself would use it. Its a uk nightlife forum - and I've implemented all the twitter accounts from all the bars clubs and pubs, to automatically post in each specific forum, so when you go out you can check who has the offers on... etc . I've also sieved out any rubbish which tries to get through automatically. www.talknightlife.co.uk Regards Luke
  11. Hiya I like this menu type alot http://www.tutorials-db.com/articles/Coding_a_Smooth_CSS_Expanding_Navigation/ What kind of scripting does it use, and will search engine bots be able to spider the menu urls with no problems, if it does conflict with search engine bots, whats the closest scripting to this which won't stop bots from crawling? Is there any other alternatives to this menu, with the same effect of, expanding vertical ? regards lukescotty
  12. yo, defo don't have 120+ links coming in, nor have I bought any, I'll be linking out to these websites, from mine, i'll be listing quite a few companies, and in there address and description, there will be there website url. so back to the point, is there a way of linking to a website with out it counting as a backlink etc, am sure theres a way. regards lukescotty
  13. My website will display and link to quite a few websites 120+ around, and I don't want to effect my seo, is there a way to link to a website without the cost of link backs. The 120+ links seems quite alot but they are very relevant. any help would be much appreciated. regards lukescotty
