  1. To develop further our interesting discussion, let me ask something here... 1) What's the best (or easiest perhaps?) way to work as a web designer in England nowadays, as a freelancer or as an employee of a web design firm? 2) Are flashers still in high demand? 3) American accent won't turn people off? Maybe my accent would sound more like a foreign one, I don't know... 4) I got a feeling that in the UK, its extreamly important to find a right prospect and to really work hard selling yourself to him. Comparing Sweden and the UK, I was thinking that Swedes are peasants by nature, unlike the British. That could be a factor too...who knows. Maybe that's the reason why old people don't try to create web sites all by themselves here Would it be right to tell that in general England is a country with high prices and low wages or its just the web designers are the unlucky bunch? 5) Which country in Europe (incl. the UK, of course) might, in your opinion, be the best for a web design, Flash etc. related person to immigrate to?
  2. Well, to some degree, lower pays get compensated by me knowing English, which makes me more sellable than in a country where I don't speak the local language. Let me ask something else...REGARDLESS of a compensation...generally speaking. Is it relatively easy to find something to do in this field? What about Flash (as of NOW)? High demand? Entry level?
  3. Prices here in Sweden aren't higher than in the UK, at least I was told that by someone who lived in BOTH countries. I'm not talking about 5% difference or so... I would think that Germany is cheaper, but UK? I highly doubt! I can only compare swedish prices and US prices and I can definately tell that US is cheaper, but the design tariffs are about the same. But my question wasn't about the US though. I just went to UK web design companies' sites and local and especially DANISH sites and also I read in forums. So I got an impression that UK customers feel like paying a min. wage for a web designer. I think I read on a british headhunter site that they wanted to hire an entry level web designer for a UK min. wage or so. Also I read in lots of places that in the UK they pay like 35 to 50 bucks an hour, whereas, say, in Scandinavia/UA its more like 50 to 80 dol. an hr rates. Speaking of Indians, its a disaster. I remember while living in the US, I was a customer of AOL. And they used to outsource to India their cust service reps. That was awful! Americans were smart enough though to quickly realize that and I think they stopped it. Well, China is a best example of it too...If it was up to me, I would simply ban all the chinese goods and burn what is here already. Luckily they don't do web sites yet.
  4. Hello! I'm a new here...I specifically signed up on a british forum to ask people from the UK (mostly from England, of course). I noticed that despite of high prices in the UK (about the same as in the US and Scandinavia), people charge MUCH less for web design/development projects in your country than here in Scandinavia or in the USA. I think, an average, we're talking about 50% less. Is it because the UK market of IT professionals is oversaturated or because people are too greedy to pay an adequate prices, or because there're lots of people from former colonies (like India) who are willing to work for much less? Its not just a pure curiousity, I consider England as a possible place to live. Though, frankly, the only thing that attracts me is the language. Other than that, I wouldn't even bother...Lived for a year in Canada and hated it with passion. US was 100 times better. Well, that is offtop though. So I would like to hear your comments, please! Thanks in advance! P.S. Of course, taxes are somewhat lower in the UK than here, but the difference is not all that big, I think...
