Boot Problem
around 4 seconds then off then back on then off again in the same spot. This process will continue and never stop untill i power down the psu or press the power button again. It is not even getting to read from the drives but seems like some kind of power problem or something similar. My PSU is not a cheap stock unit but a semi decent £60 500w unit that has worked great for the last few years with no problems. Its just that the sudden loss of one of my HDD's before I stripped it makes me wonder if it the psu was under stress and could no longer power this drive and stripping the PC down was its last stand before it dies. I know that the PSU is the most temperamental part of a pc too which makes me wonder. Does this sound accurate or not, im not exactly an expert you see but can quite accurately find my way around? Does anyone else have any suggestions? I think im gonna plug in all the bare essentials and make sure that they are all fitted correctly, leaving all GPU's and expansion cards and fans etc well away and if it still will not power up then Im gonna buy a cheapo PSU just to test. If it powers up then il go out and pay for a decent one. Does this sound like the best idea? Id be happy if a pro out there could perhaps provide me with a bit more guidance

Boot Problem
Hello. I realise that this question is not relevant to web design however i could not think of a better place for support. Recently my slave SATA HDD disapeared from windows and did not even display in the drive manager, The HDD is a good quality western Digital blue caviar 160gb or something like that and is not even 12 months old. This happened very suddenly which was strange as it is only used to hold a few small files such as software etc. I regularly strip my pc to clean all the dust from inside so i figured that id give it a clean and look inside since it was very overdue. After removing cleaning and replacing everything I can now not get it to boot. It will power up for a few seconds then just turn itself off straight away. I realise that this is usualy down to something not being fitted correctly but I was wondering if someone could point me in the right direction.

naming a <a> type within a strict document
Iv always used transitional documents up til now but have recently started with strict doctypes. I was doing fine untill a realised that you could not use <a> types such as _self, _blank and so on. I cannot understand why these have been removed and why it is no longer essential to use them. So I presume that as standard within a strict document a hyperlink is automatically set to _self. Im just guessing here but that is the type i use 90% of the time so I can get away with that, however what happens if I want to use a different type such as _blank or one of the other? Im sure there must be another valid way to do this without leaving XHTML. Please note that I do not use javascript either as it is something I have never started to learn. I suppose it may be time since iv heard there is a way to to this using js but Im sure there must be some other way. Thank you.

css layout problem
Iv just finished building a webpage and all was perfect but somewhere along the line I have accidentaly changed something within the css i think as I cannot get the footer alligned in the page foot. The footer links are perfectly aligned within the page foot and to the right. The sitemap container is supposed to be on the far left hand side of the foot directly opposite the sitemap links. The main footer should sit underneath about centered as much as possible. The settings were all fine untill something changed so i cannot be that far from getting it. Im still new to raw coding so any help would be highly appreciated. Thanks. gallery.css #wrapper { width:1024px; height:1000px; background-image:url('../images/gallery_theme.jpg'); color:#FFF; margin:auto; } #streamline_affiliate { float:left; margin-top:7px; margin-left:15px; } #w3c { float:left; margin-top:8px; margin-left:10px; } #w3c-css { float:left; margin-top:8px; margin-left:8px; } #header { width:413px; height:20px; margin-top:16px; float:right; text-align:center; font-weight:bolder; } #navigation { margin-top:45px; margin-left:-235px; float:left; } #adsense { height: 251px; width: 301px; float:right; margin-right:230px; margin-top:40px; } #content { height:400px; width:550px; background-color:#FF8000; float:right; clear:right; margin-top:45px; margin-right:84px; } #footer_links { height:29px; width:300px; float:right; clear:both; margin-right:27px; margin-top:57px; text-align:center; font-weight:bolder; } #sitemap_container { height:28px; width:129px; float:left; clear:left; margin-left:25px; text-align:center; font-weight:bolder; } #footer { height:29px; width:978px; margin-left:24px; margin-top:22px; clear:both; font-weight:bolder; text-align:center; } a:link,a:visited,a:active { color:#FFF; } a:hover { color:#0080FF; } gallery.html <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml" xml:lang="en" lang="en"> <head> <meta name="generator" content= "HTML Tidy for Linux/x86 (vers 11 February 2007), see www.w3.org" /> <title>Gallery | Motorcycle & scooter spare parts & accessories | Andy's Motorcycles - Stoke-on-Trent</title> <meta http-equiv="content-type" content="text/html; charset=us-ascii" /> <link rel="SHORTCUT ICON" href= "http://www.andys-motorcycles.com/favicon.ico" /> <meta name="description" content= "welcome to andys motorcycles gallery page. Iv tried everything but its doing my head in now so i feel no other option is available other than to seek advice from the pro's. Header tags... CSS or HTML? - S.E.O Question
That has answered my question realy - google cannot see css. I completely understand that html is for content and css is for styling but i was just wondering how to define a header tag as ewven though it is content is does also seem to apply a style to the text. Thank you for your answer.

Header tags... CSS or HTML? - S.E.O Question
What I was realy asking was how to differentiate when to write rules with CSS and when to use HTML. Obviously HTML is the main language for web design and therefore most important but if html is so important then what is the use of css. I was realy asking from the point of SEO and search engines since this is also one of the most important feature for web designers.

Header tags... CSS or HTML? - S.E.O Question
When writing a header that is sitting inside its own DIV or table is it better to add the H tag aroiund the text itself via HTML or will the search engines see it just as well if written within the .css rule attatched to the same document? Im one of those designers that likes to write most of his code all nice & tightly with .CSS rather than html. I tend to try and keep my HTML minimum but i do not know whether this is bad for SEO. Can search engines immediately tell that the most important text on the page or h1 when the code is written seperately with CSS. Most things are not realy eltered by this but I was not sure about the header tags. Thank you.

PSD web template help
Right. Well in the case of this website i cant change the look so if possible i need to try and edit my current theme. I do still have the psd templates and am currently trying to sort it out but im a little inexperineced. What would be your next move on this site. I am currently trying a teqnique where i save the entire page as a single .png file and enter it as a single css wrapper background and then code all the main content areas -header, footer, contentm sidebar, etc - with css by hand. Do you think this would make my site perform better or would it still be slow to load the wrapper css backgound image which is actually the entire page.

linking .css to HTML page
Iv fugured it out. Image paths in css are relative to the style sheet, not the html. This is the code that finaly did it for me background-image: url('../images/home_theme.png'); Thanks for trying though

linking .css to HTML page
Hey. Sorry for asking something that is probably daft to many of you but i have only just moved onto raw coding rather than using dreamweaver so im very rusty now. I simply cannot get my html page to link to my .css file unless i write in inside the html file itself rther than having the seperate .css file. Where am i going wrong? wrapper.css #wrapper { width: 1024px; height: 1000px; background-image: url('images/home_theme.png'); } index.html <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml" xml:lang="en" lang="en"> <head> <title></title> <meta http-equiv="content-type" content="text/html;charset=utf-8" /> <meta name="description" content="" /> <meta name="keywords" content="" /> <link href="css/wrapper.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css"></link> </head> <body> <div id="wrapper"></div> </body> </html> Thank you

PSD web template help
I do manually create my own slices around the main content areas as well as navigation area however upon saving for web & devices photoshop automatically creates a whole host of other slices to account for the rest of the space on the shape that sits inbetween the slices i made. Check my page - http://www.andys-motorcycles.com

PSD web template help
But i want all of them! What im trying to do is reduce the ammount of slices that photoshop is automaticaly creating around the slices i did actually create. If i dont export them all i have giant blank spaces inbetween the slices i did select. Is there a way just keep the slices iv created and have the rest of the page as a single image?

PSD web template help
I know that most pro web desingers cringe at the mention of psd-html conversions but i was using photoshop for many years before even trying web desing so i realy would like to integrate them somehow, however iv never used any of the web features within photoshop. In photshop i can create beautifull web layouts and have a library of them that iv been creating in the hope of building my own psd free template site. The problem is that im still learning web desing so im having the odd problem here and there. Basically after iv created my slices which is basically just the content areas of the page im using the "save for web" feature and then either saving in table or css format. The problem is that when i create my slices photoshop automatically slices the hell out of the rest of the page so when i open the file in an editor im left with far too many images and css rules making the page far to slow to load. Is there any other methods or options that im missing? Is there some way to only get the slices iv created and keep the rest of the page as a single image? If not is there any other ways to make the pages load quicker or maybe different software that integrates better? Thank you.

CSS Image replacement advice.
I do also have coffeecups HTML editor which is great and also has a visual view. Although dreamweaver is a wysiwyg editor it is very powerfull and also has a faily good HTML editor which is why I use it. My text HTML editor is better forwriting code as it lists all the different tags for quick and correct insertation which is great for learners like me. I would love to completely stop using Dreamweaver but the problem i have that i struggle to write even the most basic of websites using text whereas with Dreamweaver I have been able to create some visualy quite good sites. Im at a funny stage of my learning process where it will feel like im stepping backwards if I start with a text only editor as i simply dont understand most of the tags. I suppose that this is simply a matter of learning which I do need to do but it will take me a very long time to be able to create a page with the same visuals as Iv been creating with Dreamweaver, and that is obviously not an attractive process. Does anybody have any good learning resurces or links I could check out? Im gonna start with text only and see how that goes for a little. Thank you for your input

php or html
This is simple realy. Im designing a new site and basically wanted to know which was best for designing. I wont be using any test servers or anything but my site will include quite a lot of images which i will be converting to css background images and remove the image itself from the page. My server does not allow htaccess so iv used php before for the benefits of gzip compression. There s about 45 images on my page. Should i use .php files or html files with XHTML 1.0 transitional compliant code? Sorry but im still a little confused over the differences. Thank you

Thank you for your fast reply however as I mentioned earlier I am still learning so i did not catch the first half of your message. The code was automatically written by dreamweaver when importing the psd file. I have a basic knowledge of divs & css etc but do not know how to combine the files you mentioned. This is why I posted in the hope that someone could help me in any way. If you could please elaborate a little i would be extremely gratefull. Also my host only allows 1 .htaccess script and i think that is mod-rewrite. Any ideas. Thank you for your quick reply.
