Finding the right system
I know it's a bank holiday, but work calls, and easter is a bit too much of a religious holiday for my liking, so I'm working. I'm researching some systems which would be suitable for my client. It turns out that his need are very specific. The brief is outlined below. I'm looking for a system which is both CRM and CMS with E-Commerce modules available. My idea was firstly to use the following; 1. Wordpress. With the Real Estate theme by woo themes - which has the property search. Google estate by woo themes. 2. An E-Commerce Plugin to manage the payments, which would have a members area where cusomters could look at their payment history. Don't know which one would be most suitable. 3. Online booking system (google - wpdevelop booking calender) to manage all of the reservations and manage bookings. Does anyone have any ideas on this subject, or the suitablility of the system I have in mind? If so I would be grateful if anyone could point me in the right direction.. There could be paid work for anyone that comes up with an idea which will help my client develop the right site for him. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Brief. Part 1. I will be advertising maybe 60 seasonal properties for next season plus 2 or 3 properties which will have the shared option, so will need to have the facility for client to search through the properties based on for eg, number of bedrooms, how many it sleeps, distance from lifts etc. I want to be able to use maybe Google maps (or something similar) to show the location of each property. I need there to be the option of on line payments through Paypal (or again something similar). I'm looking to be able to offer a login into the system so that clients can view there bookings and also have the option of paying in instalments. Would like there to be an option of having featured properties on the homepage that I am able to easily update and change. Want an 'extras page' which will include ski hire, airport transfers, insurance. Will be able to source white labels in order to make commission. Part 2. I have also been offered up to 200 weekly holiday rentals which I also want to advertise on the site. I see there being two sections Seasonal Rentals and Weekly Rentals. Here's what I need; This section need to be fully content managed so that I can add and update properties with descriptions, photos, info and also location maps. Need a search engine so that people can search for properties by rooms etc (I see this working in a similar way to that of the seasonal lettings). Need there to be online payment and automated booking confirmations. Will need a back end system so that there is a calender for each property which if possible updates automatically once a booking comes in. Need an agent login so that the agents I am working with can login into the back end system and manually update the calenders should they take a booking themselves. This is so that there are no double bookings and that the availability is always live. I need the site to be fully secured so that the payments are safe etc. For me, the main focus is the seasonal accommodation although I would like to be able to have the weekly rentals if it's going to be possible to set up the back end system without there being massive costs. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Thanks in advance for any input given. jQuery transitions and links
Hi everyone and anyone who reads this post, and Merry Christmas, This link will take you where i have made a small gallery to insert into a web page. http://www.justsomediahouse.co.uk/sittingspiritually/index.html I have used some jquery fading to get the transitions between the images. My problem is that the owner of the site wants each picture to link to a certain page of his site. When the images are in transition there is a spot where the links switch over to the new image, but if you click to early you will be taken to the previous images link not the new one. Click the link and have a go. I have somewhere seen a list of values you can use with jquery for the speed of transition, timeout etc. Are there a set of values I can insert into the script to fix this a href transition problem? Any help with this would be greatly appreciated as I'm a bit lost when it comes to jQuery. Surya (Fathernugen)

Strange render of image borders
I think I might have fixed it by giving the images dimensions in the css. I haven't had it happen to me again since. Fixed the spelling mistake, thanks for the heads up. As for the ordering page, it should read different, but I am waiting for the owner to send me the text to put on there, but I am going to change it now and put something a little more appropriate. Thanks for taking the time to have a look. Regards, Fathernugen.

Strange render of image borders
I'm trying to get this site so that the cms i will implement will allow the boxes with text in to resize when the owner adds content. If the text doesn't resize, then maybe I am missing something. Any ideas on how this can be remedied?? Thanks, Fathernugen.

Strange render of image borders
Hi, I'm relatively new here so please forgive me if my terminology isn't up to scratch. If anyone can help me with this I will be truly grateful. Web address: http://www.handmadewallpaper.co.uk Problem's: On the home page the page only loads to 1/6 of the way down, but only sometimes, usually on first load before cache has stored anything. On the whats so special page, the image border appears but in a sort of half here, half not kind of way. That same thing happens on the artist page too. But again only sometimes. I'm not sure if it's my jquery playing up or what. You may notice if you look at the code that I tried fixing it with some pre-load images but it didn't help. Any heads up would be great. Thanks in advance, Surya

Adapting a WYSIWYG site for cms
Thanks to you both for your prompt replies. I think I wrote that last bit down in a bit of a hurry, and as a result the readability and the point got a bit (gaussian) blurred. I'll try and make some sense of it. The site I inherited, in it's original form, is here: www.handmadewallpaper.co.uk. (which has fixed height divs and doesn't work with the CMS) The site I propose to supplant it with is this one: http://www.justsomed.../hugh/news.html http://www.justsomed.../hugh/style.css This has a different structure. No fixed height divs. This works with the CMS fine it's just there are some big blank spaces i cant get rid off - namely below the right column. Which happens to be the same sized gap as the height of the first column. Like a good boy I have re-read this, like a school assignment, to make sure I haven't misconstrued my meaning.

Adapting a WYSIWYG site for cms
Hello everyone who reads this post. I've just got some new web design work. My client has a website which he needs to be able to update himself. So off I went, I went to google, and I asked, do you have any simple CMS systems for web designers? He said "yes" try these two. Cushy and Surreal. I always have an optimistic outlook when my friend google has proper answers for me. I read the documentation on surreal and installed it into my clients website. Now he has got his hands on his own content he is adding ll kinds of irrelevant stuff. Anyway the problem arose when he decided to put lots of news in the news section. The container div is absolute, in position and size meaning that all the extra news text put inside it overflows over the bottom margin. So I got my rubber gloves and SARS mask on and dived in to the code. I have never inherited a site like this one. The code is crazy. I think Surreal had a field day on an already WYSIWIG'ed website. I have gone back and adapted themark up so that the Surreal CMS works better and doesn't ruin the layout. I think I will have to re-write all the pages so that future changes by me (or others) will be easier to understand. If you look at the site http://www.handmadewallpaper.co.uk'>http://www.handmadewallpaper.co.uk You will see that the news page is a bit wonky because I'm in the middle of redoing it. I guess my question to anyone reading this is: HOW DO I CONSTRUCT A LAYOUT WHICH WILL ADAPT TO THE EXTRA CONTENT MY CLIENT WILL BE PUTTING IN. IM USING RELATIVE DIV'S WITH NEGATIVE INDENT LEVELS. But I don't think this is the answer. Any help would be greatly appreciated. (there is no nemu for nav yet, no need till i get this bit sorted) http://www.justsomediahouse.co.uk/hugh/news.html http://www.justsomediahouse.co.uk/hugh/style.css Original Website; http://www.handmadewallpaper.co.uk

Welcome to me
Hello one and all, Just a quick note to say hello to everyone and introduce myself. I'm here for two reasons mainly: 1. Post questions I have about things which are beyond my expertise. 2. Hopefully help some of you guys out if I have some knowledge that you don't. I own a small design based business in Lyme Regis and my expertise lies in the designing of websites, other .asp and .php functionality is something I would like some help with, and I'm considering farming out some of the work i need for clients websites to others who are more experienced in those fields.. So feel free to get in touch and get stuck in with my topic posts. Read my profile for more about me. Hope to converse with some of you in the near future. Regards Fathernugen (Surya Osborne)

Pay Pal and EPoS Systems
This is my first time on a forum so please be gentle with me. This is my problem. I have a client who runs courses. The courses can be booked online. As its a test at the moment i recommended using pay-pal until the website really takes of and then i would opt for a shopping cart or other type of software. The client owns a shop and has a credit card swipe machine for accepting payments form customers. Can pay-pal be linked to this card swipe machine which resides in her shop? Any answers would be greatly appreciated, as all i get when i type this into google is the pay pal virtual terminal stuff which (i think) is not what im asking. Regards and thanks in advance, Surya Osborne (Fathernugen)
